The Goddess Tournament

100 years ago, the Global War's damage was mostly undone in the area previously known as Central United States. The one who accomplished this was the sole surviving being of this war, granted godhood by the "sacrifice" of every other living being on the planet. The Goddess, as she came to be known, wielded phenomenal power and knowledge, but her mind was still mortal. She could only focus on one thing at a time, and more than one risked disaster. She needed to delegate power to those who would assist her. She needed to create the Pantheon.

She knew the process innately. First a mortal had to acquire enough power to transcend mortality and become a demigod. After that, the Goddess needed to bestow a fraction of her power, and a set of domains, upon the demigod in order to bring them to full godhood. However, the requirement to even become a demigod was astronomical in the number of sacrifices to be required, with stronger sacrifices reducing the number. Even worse, those sacrificed would never know an afterlife or revival, only oblivion. 100,000 normal souls or 32 of the strongest, she needed one or the other.

The Goddess determined that she could not demand such a sacrifice from anyone, but that it must be willingly given. And so came the First Goddess Tournament, comprised of the 32 strongest fighters the world had to offer. Willingly they came, tempted by the offer of divinity. They defeated and devoured each other, gaining power as the victors moved through the brackets, until only one remained. Kaiser, a copper dragon with the unique power of Zero Sum that could negate the powers of what she held. The Goddess bestowed upon her the shard that transcended the victor. Her scales became bright gold, her strength legendary, and she was now Kaiser, Goddess of Light and Law. The Goddess charged Kaiser with restoring order to the broken world and ensuring that the Goddess Tournament was held every 100 years. In the meantime, the Goddess would try to learn her powers better.

Kaiser agreed with this mission and formed the Order of the Golden Scale, dedicated to keeping law and order in the civilized parts of the world as well as expanding society into the remnants of what were now know as the Forgotten Lands, war-torn and existentially unstable. To this day the Order continues to dedicate itself to its mission.

This is the record kept of the Tournaments that produced what would eventually become the full Pantheon.
