The story of the Acromulans, as it is known to the Interplanetary Council of Mankind, begins with the first contact with them, on the colony planet Fodina III.
Fodina III had always been a rather isolated colony, far from any large multiplanetary nation or coalition or, basically, from anything of any importance.
It is at the literal fringe of the colonized space, but unlike other frontier planets, this one didn't see much traffic since there was literally nothing else worth colonizing for dozens of lightyears beyond in that direction.
Luckily for its inhabitants, the planet had been already terraformed to an advanced stage and the reason for its colonization, its reserves of valuable minerals and gases, provided them with at least valuable resources for interplanetary trades... Ultimately, it was a forgettable colony in the middle of nothing, although thriving in its own little system.

It changed, though, with the arrival of the Acromulans.

They said they came in peace, although they came with a huge cruiser ship, large enough to carry the population of a small-sized nation and armed well enough to glass Fodina III from the other end of its star system in a matter of minutes.
Not that they made any threats, of course. No, they just wanted to 'plant the seeds for a proficuous interspecies communion' and 'start a new age of sharing and mutual enrichment'.

And, well, they weren't lying. For the most part, at least.

Today, ten years later, Fodina III is, objectively, a better planet.
Acromulan technology is far more advanced than anything achieved by any human coalition, and thanks to it, the people of this distant colony live in relative luxury, in a world that's no longer a mere 'young planet' of rocky desert and lung greenery; it has a developed echosystem with evolved flora and fauna, coming from the Acromulan's DNA databases, and dozens of atmo-cities litter its skies, substained by renewable, clean energy provided by almost inexhaustible reactors .

And the people of Fodina are still as free as they were before. Well, technically they live under 'Acromulan protection', but that doesn't really mean that much.
And yeah, there's the fact that Acromulans tend to live in their own segregated quarters and have their own exclusive clubs and restaurants, but people there don't really care much anymore.
Most humans seem still quite intimidated, if not outright terrified, when they come face to face with their alien benefactors in the streets, but they'll probably grow out of these prejudices eventually.
Not to talk about social progress! Crime is at an all-time low, to the point that there's no need for prisons anymore. Unemployment has disappeared as well. And there are no longer homeless people on the street!

Truly, these are wonderful times for the people of Fodina III.

Sounds like a truly ideal society! I mean occasionally some people mysteriously disappear but that's got nothing to do with our glorious benefactors
