> Take Tess and Lorre

Looking at your allies, you make a decision on how to do things. "Tess, Lorre, I will have the two of you come with me to confront this elf mercenary." You look at those two, then to Datev. "Datev, I would have you learn of what information you can. Search out the storage barn in question and just... do what you do. That said, do not over extend yourself. I understand that you are skilled, but I would rather this not turn into a rescue mission."

"Got it, Tel." The cat gives you a nod. "I'll meet you when you're done with the elf." With that, Datev heads out of the barracks. You only hope that he heeds your orders and doesn't get into trouble.

"Off to have a talk with the elf then, eh?" Tess looks at you. "Best not keep her waiting."

Giving her a nod, the three of you head off towards the tavern where the elf was last seen. It takes just a short walk through the snow-covered streets of the city until you find yourself there. You stop to speak with your allies. "I would have the two of you go in first." You tell them. "It may be that she could recognize me. If it appears that I go in alone, then she may keep her guard low. I would rather we not have a fight break out in public."

"Should we speak with the tavernkeep about this?" Lorre asks. "He is a friend of the company, after all. If he is informed of what might happen, it might make things easier."

"Yes, I shall leave that to you then." You nod to the elf. "Tell him to not take any sort of action though. It is good to give him some warning though."

"Right, don't keep us waiting, boss." Tess gives you a nod. "We'll watch yer back." With your plan set for now, the two of them head inside.

You wait several minutes before heading in yourself, giving Tess and Lorre plenty of time to get settled. Walking inside, you take a long look around. The tavern is large, though during this time of day isn't too busy. It doesn't take long for you to spot your target. A red-haired elf sitting alone at a table. Of course, it looks like she's taken notice as well. She obviously spots you, and she doesn't look too thrilled. She goes back to her drink though, not making a move of any sort. With your mask, it may be that she wasn't able to figure out if you saw her.

On the other side of the tavern, near the bar, you see Tess and Lorre. It looks like they've already spoken with the owner of the tavern. The inn rooms are towards the back, behind the bar, and you imagine that the elf has already rented one for use. You consider how you want to do things now...

The lass does not have her plated steel on hand, it may be best to directly address her. Should a fight break out she is heavily out gunned, she would be wise to have a conversation instead of a brawl.

May steel line thy path

I agree with this. She probably recognizes us and will leave when given the chance. If we confront her now, then it'll give us the upper hand. Not only do we have our companions, but we also have an entire bar should things come to it. That being said, some of the patrons might be with her, so let's be careful.

Walk up to elf and say hi.
Have a friendly conversation here, in the tavern. We want to know about Melra. Tell her that she has not come home yet, and ask her how the mission went.

Gauge whether she is lying or not.

I really like this idea. Play the spy intelegence / close to the vest style.

Use subtlety. First, question some other patrons of the bar about a recently missing set of cervidae, before going to the elf proper to ask her the same. Make it seem like you're generally gathering information and aren't aware of her involvement in it. When you do get to her, expect her to see the connection- If she questions you about it, explain that Melra is from the same clan as you, and the style of mask helps denote that, and there are plenty of cervidae from your clan- certainly not untrue, but misleading enough to consider it a false flag. Then, of course, use the information she gives. If she somehow talks about you look familiar to Melra before you describe her for instance, you've got her in a checkmate.

Ideally, you want to buy time for Tess and Lorre to set up checking her in room. Meanwhile, you want to make sure she stays in the bar, by interrupting her with talking while making it seem like you don't realize her connection to the crime. Of course, you're also looking for ways to expose her while you talk. Should you want to talk at length, and you find Lorre and Tess are already gone, ask to speak further about the issue in her inn room, and prepare an ambush.

I think we should go in hard! Make Tess make the wrong move. Walk right up to her table and sit, tell her that we're looking for our sister and that she was last seen with her... Give her the idea that we are a threat, and that we need to be dealt with. Then give her a way out, tell her that we should talk in private. Her room should suffice.

If it all goes well she might make a move to eat us, thinking we underestimated her and came alone. Then, even if she overpowers us, we have our two guards to come back and get her in her stuffed state. We win, with a captured, and guilty elf ;3

I have to second that - Beliya's sharp and playing coy with her won't cut it. We can already feel very certain that she was responsible for Melra's murder, and from what our father told us and what we already know of the situation we can even be fairly certain of the method. Let's try the direct approach.

Also I meant Beliya, not Tess xD. Whoops haha

Bite her face off and chew holes in her skull.

Walk straight up to her table and sit down. Stare at the (still attractive) wench until she speaks. When she does, explain how you're looking for a member of your clan who hasn't returned from a simple ruin dive mission, and that you were informed she was traveling with a female elf. If she comments on how that could be any number of other elves, tell he that Melra told her she would be traveling with an "Attractive red-headed elf warrior". Tell her you'd just like to ask her some questions.

I'm really hoping she gets aggressive so we can "self defense" her to an early grave in Telri's stomach.

Since she was hired to kill the other deer i would not be surprised if she had information on her allies/family so the elf could recondite the new deer girl and try to escape or something. But that's only if her employers filled her in i guess. Or she found out some other way.

Hehe, her assets have increased. Well I mean, there's really not much we can do in deception. We should just flat out go up to her and say something along the lines of "one of our mercenaries have yet to return from her recent mission and our reports indicate that a red-haired elf of medium height etc. was accompanying her at the time,". We can genuinely ask if she knows about her whereabouts and just let her attempt to deceive us with false information. We could also offer her a handsome reward if she can take us to her last known location. If I remember correctly, she seems to be fond of gold. She could be thinking of a strategy to lead us away from the city and attempt to take our gold instead. We can have our companions sit back and come in when needed. If we want information, we likely will be unable to get it if we go in guns blazing in a crowded place.

Lets act all happy-go-lucky and cheerful. approach her and ask her if our sister is alright~

or approach the barkeep, find out the girls room and go panty raiding... by which i mean steal her armour and weaponry so she cant use it. also all her money so she gained nothing from her exploits.

OK, we know the facts of the previous story, maybe not sure enough to get a conviction in court, but we are confident enough that if this elf walks down a dark alley, we may make sure she is carried out.
But we don't know why Sis was killed. This elf has no known reason, except possible pay. But who paid her? Some boyfriend? ex-boyfriend, father of her child?, rival for promotion? Attack by a rival gang seems unlikely since she wasn't much in the family business, but other gang members are certainly suspects since they might be willing and able to plot this. And since they have backup, we have to be careful. But if Sis tried to play Juliet, and Romeo got tired of her for whatever reason, we have got to prove that, and make sure Romeo plays his role in a double funeral.
So this punk elf is not important except for what she can tell us. Putting her in somebody's belly is a fine idea, but she can walk if she can finger the paymaster.
So how to get her to talk?...
For a little bit, let her stew. Just sit at another table and make it obvious we are very interested in her. Our two assistants guard the exits, again making it obvious she is not allowed to leave, but not threatening anything immediate.
when she has had enough time to get seriously worried, move to her table, in an only-vaguely threatening manner, sit down, and tell her she is in a very dangerous situation.
State the basics of what we surmise, as facts, not as our guesses. Then tell her we want the answers to several questions, and while we don't think we will like her answers, it will be better for her if the answers are honest whether or not we like them.
Resist any suggestion of paying her. She gets her life, and maybe only a running start. And we will get the answers soon enough. The longer she tries to hold out, the shorter that running start will be.
If she claims ignorance question her closely on details and require her to stay in town to be checked further. Remind her that if she tries to leave, she is just saying there is no reason to let her live.

cheat sheet time, seeing we know more then our character deer:
- elf has poor work ethnics, she was willing to forsake the job for a good sex partner, maybe she's willing to backstab them on their inept payment to save her skin(for dessert, but dont tell her that)

-even unarmed she has great arm muscle, keep moderate distance as we know what weapon she uses, and that takes some strength to flail around.

-her tits looks like sis, greet her too(no..not really)

offer a refill for her story on what happened, a way to get info or at least a reading on her without starting a fight yet.
