Badger eats man in self defense (sorta): justifiable. Badger eats man that was deliberately fed to it: perfectly understandable. Badger sets trap to nab itself an unsuspecting human meal: weeelll...

Goodness... the badger knows how to set up a trap now? I am deeply excited by this development of an animalistic predator. And I am really scared to wander offsite the roads, now xD
Very well written, I really enjoy how you build the story.

Nicely done. I like the idea of the cell phone bait and the back story at the end. But would the little pred not have burried itsekf while digging up the human?

Badgers get a lot of practice at digging and are adapted to be very good at it. Their claws are hollow on the underside to serve as shovels, their hide is loose so they don't get wedged in a narrow tunnel, and they are a mass of wiry muscle from all the digging. They know what they are doing and it not getting buried is not the most unlikely thing that happens in this story. 83

right. I just imagined him to tunnel his way underneath his meal to let him sink into his maw or something. But top down might work well if he can throw the earth out far enough so it won't land on his ass.

An alternate idea for the story was for the badger to dig just a vertical shaft wide enough for a man so you'd fall feetfirst into its jaws. An early version also had it covering up the hole before eating Josh, but that made it look too smart.

maybe he learned that from a fox who taught at the institute od cunning at oxford university. (Blackadder reference)

It has become smarter, dun dun dun!

If newsworthy badger things keep happening in the real world who knows how smart it will get or how many people it will eat. 83
