A surprisingly friendly gull. I enjoyed how he told her how he learned about biology.
I think this chapter was even better, his backstory telling showcasing how lucky Sam is to have stumbled into his cave of all places. The fact he could simply devour her but choses not to despite the convenience and the usual behaviour of his species created a great tension.

I'm glad you're enjoying the story so far. I'm trying to use the dynamic between the two to keep it interesting and build up to some more interesting stuff that happens in chapter 4.

Jake is only friendly because of his upbringing. Other members of his species are not so forgiving ;-)
