well, i wanted to show how deme's anatomy works but... n-not firsthand....
notes:
Fig. A: The prey enters through the esophagus. If it is small enough, it stays and soaks in the stomach for a while - if it larger, it moves immediately to the gizzard, where stomach acid has already pooled. The prey's struggling signals to Deme's body that there is something ready to be digested.
Fig. B: As acid begins working on the prey, the gizzard begins to constrict. The gizzard's job into grind into paste whatever can't be handled by stomach acid alone.
Fig. C: Soon, there is little left besides muscle and bone. If the prey has survived this long, it will not be for much longer.
Fig. D: The gizzard walls continue constricting until they are grinding against each other, ensuring that their contents are not missed. The few things Deme cannot digest - hair, feathers, and synthesized material (like plastic or nylon) - are deposited back into the stomach, so they can be easily spat out.

Can you tell us more about Deme?
I assume he lives near a ruin and eats intruders, but why does a statue need food?
Is he just mimicing a statue?

oh sure! thank you so much for asking!!
he's kind of like a carnivorous plant - the amount of energy required for him to catch food is only offset by the act of catching food. so, ultimately, most of the time he's asleep, preserving what energy he can (he is just mimicking a statue) but if he senses prey nearby he'll swoop in for a bite

Is he sentient?

yep!

Can you tell me more about his personality?
What is his opinion on his prey?
Does he have any long term goals?

he's sentient but not sapient, if that makes sense - he's closer to a wild animal than like. a person.
so all he really cares about is getting by. he's stoic and isn't necessarily fond of how much some food fights back, but there's only so much he can do about it.

Ah, okay! I get it. My bad, I thought the two terms were interchangeable.
Would we see any changes to his body or behavior if he got a stead supply of food, in a reliable fashion?
Like if he became the pet of some villain who would feed him prisoners several times a day at regular intervals, would we gain weight? Would he grow?
Would he become trainable or obedient?

he'd probably gain a little bit of chub, yeah. it'd allow him to move more without having to worry about food, but not by TOO much. he probably won't get much bigger, though, for a similar reason.
ehhh... he might develop favoritism or even affection but i don't think he really could be trained.

A yes, a Gizzard, one of the most brutal things i have seen and read about (RP friend is a gryphon and they described how the gizzard works)
