Well, gosh. That's sure a thing. Galya asks for proof, and gets some more circumstantial evidence, and then attends... a party!

Just a party. Nothing speci- actually this is the longest and probably lewdest chapter yet. Because I'm going to be gone for over a week, and I wanted to leave my readers with some gooey fun!

-----
Galya. Just Galya.
Qualities: Devourer, Silvertongue, Social Butterfly, Touch-Empath

The vote: While we leave Galya to relax with her new friends and try to heal after her many pleasant and unpleasant ordeals, there *is* an outstanding issue in the castle: Namely, the guard captain Gesualdo and a few guards escaped the sweep and are at liberaty in the catacombs. They've got a few options for what they could do, too, since they have a few of the terrified kitchen staff passing them regular intel about what's going on topside. They've got options they can do! I want everyone to pick TWO of the following priorities for the intrepid guards, and these are roughly ordered from least likely to work to most (though none are a sure thing either way):

1. ASSASSINATION of the demonic duchess. Remove the head demon, the problem gets easier, yeah?

2. RESCUE the wayward champion from her... snrk... intolerable torturous imprisonment.

3. SABOTAGE the castle's defenses, and hope for rescue from an outside army.

4. ESCAPE the castle entirely through the valley, and pull out anyone they can and flee for safety to bring their knowledge elsewhere.

5. REMAIN in the catacombs, gathering information, and bide your time for a better opportunity.

6. ??? You lunatics have horrified me with some of your brilliant and occasionally baffling write-ins, so... as much as I fear to say this... go nuts.

Remember, vote for TWO.

Ahhh, but now when I eventually go back and write the what-if chapter on "What if Mayonne decided to not let Galya go?", it'll be lewd AND tragic! Playing the LONG GAME.

Poor Mayonne. My only regret about how things went so far.

3. SABOTAGE as directly as possible. Kill demons, lead the ones that pursue in a chase through the catacombs to get them nice and lost, and vulnerable at your leisure.

6. TERRORIZE the castle and town. A direct confrontation is untenable, and the demons won't respect a 'civilized' resistance. Adopt terror tactics, capture and publicly execute demons that present themselves, and make examples of demon-sympathizers. The "Duchess" can rule over a blasted wasteland populated only by her own kin.

Imma vote the guards continue to be a pain in the butt:
Sabotage and Remain.

I'm more than a little bit salty about Mayonne, but shit happens. :/

Rescue; Sabotage.

Actually, I want Galya to turn evil. Sabotage; Flee

Poor Mayonne. I thought we'd be able circle back and free her after we dealt with the Duchess. Dammit, it wasn't supposed to be like this...

I think the guards should 3.SABOTAGE and 5.REMAIN.

It doesn't seem likely that they'll be effective in a direct assassination or rescue attempt. Better to hope that outside forces come to our aid, and have loyal forces hiding in the catacombs to help. They might also be able to stealthily help Galya, if she can make contact with them.

Ouch. I knew Mayonne's odds of survival were getting low, especially after Galya lost against Valguuz and was captured. But it still sucks to see them go. Especially since we don't see them eaten, and only realize they're digesting as an side mid-mind-control-orgy. Come to think of it, a lot of the deaths have been 'off camera', so to speak. Mara, Venosa, Vicaria, and now Duke Carlo. Even the serving girl two chapters ago got more description for their death (it was still a fun chapter, mind you).

Still, farewell Mayonne. You were close to our hearts, now you're close to a demon's heart, location wise. :p

As for the options for Gesualdo and the Guard, I'm not sure how good their odds of survival really are. Assassination would likely go about as well for them as it did for Galya, if not worse. We're not even sure if anyone outside the Duchy knows about the demons, so choosing to Remain and wait for help or attempting to Sabotage their defenses seem irrelevant. So, my vote is for RESCUE and ESCAPE, provided that Katena and Conzi aren't trapped in the Duchy without us. If they can't get out of town without our intervention, my vote will instead be RESCUE and REMAIN. While Gesualdo might not be happy about us poisoning the Duke, it's probably better staying in mind-control camp and being further corrupted.

Act4

Ah.. Mayonne's death was unfortunate, I had hoped we could do something to ensure her survival, but alas we were unlucky. Here death however, did allow us to kill the Duke and throw the Duchesses plan into chaos, especially since now Conzi is now technically the true heir, making her escape now a paramount concern to the Duchess.

For the guards, I'd say we should go for Option 3 as they can still pose as a thorn in the Duchesses side and cause her to slow her plans down as well as how many she can send to go find Conzi and Katena as she has to divert some of her forces to dealing with this pest instead, especially when she is already down on manpower as it is. She'll be forced to spread her forces thin, and she can't be everywhere right now.

I would then make a suggestion for Option 6. Have the guards recruit the local townspeople to their cause. These guards were likely from the town and should have many friends within it. And now that the Duke is dead, they can blame the Duchesses and the demons. Who would believe that a champion would have killed him, especially when a demons tells them that she did? Or that the same champion was supposedly killed the day prior? The guards can use his death as a banner to rally the town behind. Which would they rather side with, the demons who forcefully took over their home and slew their Duke? Or their friends who valiantly fought to protect him and by extension, them? This will give the guards more a boon to their numbers and might raise their moral and help with any other future operations they decide to carry out. I'm not suggesting the townsfolk fight, merely that they give their support to the guards and help with the continued resistance against the demons.

Granted the Duke was now revealed to be colluding with the demon and the guards probably aren't as courageous as I make them out to be. But somethings might be better off untold, we can make the Duke out to be a tragic figure for now, and then let the truth out when things settle.

Chronicle

Looks like I came back to an exciting few updates. Just going to say, I suppose I called her other half.

As for options 3-Sabatage would be the best offensive option. As for a more long term plan, that's a castle full of hungry demons, so 6-depriving them of their food source by evacuating the entire town overnight. It's a wild card, but if there aren't many actual demons guarding the surrounding town, getting as many people into wagons and riding off into the sunset can seriously cripple them.

Looking forwards to the update

6. For Guerilla warfare, killing any possible food supplies the demonic forces can get their hooves on, burning their comforts, basically make it so inhospitable that they're forced to retreat. And I suppose, since 3. sort of goes with it, Sabotage would be good as well, though 5 works in that too...probably 6 and 3, have the guards be a very large nuisance at the least.

Remain, and ????. Ie: Remain, and surrender!

I mean, its better to be a slave then an appetizer, right? :P

Goodness. I thought I'd voted on this. I had a whole write-up and everything. Oh, well.

Poor Mayonne. Out of respect for her, I'm putting all cringe-inducing mayonnaise jokes aside.

Let's think about this in terms of story-added-value. Galya's adventure has entered the sincere stage. The first real, great threat has materialized, and it's her grandmother.

Galya's having too much of a good time to be easily-rescued right now, which the Moles (the underground, catacomb-dwelling Resistance) most certainly will have heard from the kitchen staff. There's a few dead Champions out there, a few more captured, a few more at large, and a dangerous lack of knowledge of what's going on in the Duchy.

So, sincerely, my vote is for 4 - ESCAPE, and 6 - LINK UP with the captured champions on their way to the castle, and rescue THEM if possible, because we're likely talking about a small handful of guards against a castle full of full-blooded demons, and that's some awful odds. A small handful of guards against 5 demons, exhausted and likely wounded from fighting Champions, two of them likely crippled, with two Champions as captives... now we're talking.

Succeed or fail, denying the Duchess living Champions to brainwash is likely more important in the bigger picture than being a thorn in her side underneath the castle, or sabotaging her defenses for an army that may not be coming, or rescuing Galya, who probably won't leave anyway if she thinks Li was captured. Getting the knowledge of what's being done, to safety, is likewise of crucial importance.
