New theory, the F-22 pilot is a relative to the Obsidian dragon's pilot. But Dame, what an intro. Masotan got his scaly ass handed to him by the shark mouth. That explains his hatred of the F-22's shark mouth. But you can still feel bad for the obsidian dragon. His pilot just vanished on him. I'm starting to think the obsidian dragon just vanished too. Maybe it run away.

That was a very interesting dream at the start! I wonder who that old man was...

Though, I find it odd you had Norma as a N1K. Assuming that the other 3 planes you see flying with Ki-46!Masotan in the anime's flashback scenes are Futomomo, Akemi, and Norma, and that Norma is the once single-engine fighter in the formation, that fighter is obviously a Ki-61. The shape of it's nose/front end makes it clear it's a V-engine rather than radial-engine, and the only Japanese plane with that design was the Ki-61. (sorry for this nitpicking, it's the history nerd in me.)

I am now imagining the face on amazonian poachers' and drug lord's faces as a literal dragon comes after them.

So, we get the briefing for the first operation of the training exercise. Are there gonna be OTFs on Opfor's team as well? I'm looking forwards to the battle beginning.

"I think the conversation would be something like this: "I'm telling you, We been attacked by a dragon!"

"Uh huh... So when the ship blew up did any of the good stuff get blown onto you?"

I actually did not know that Norma was shown in any flashbacks. can you direct me to the episode in which he makes an appearance in his WW2 form? I will make corrections accordingly.

Really this is mostly speculation, but:

In the episode 8 flashback after we see Ki-46 Masotan save the A6M, he flies into formation with three other aircraft; common fan speculation is that these three aircraft are also OTFs, specifically the same OTFs as in the present day (Norma, Akemi, and Futomomo). AFAIK this has never been confirmed officially, but it is very common fan theory.

If we accept that theory than the one single-engine plane (Ki-61 as I mentioned) would be Norma since he's the smallest of the four.

Of course, if you decide not to use this theory and assume Japan has more OTFs back then, I won't hold it against you

Made the correction to retcon Norma's role in this scene.

Entertaining chapter with the WWII flashbacks and the fight with the American dragon. In all of the 'military dragonrider' stories and films I imagine it being more realistic if the dragons did it more for the adventure and entertainment but never really risking their own lives fighting for the political beliefs of one tribe of short lived humans and never trying to seriously injure their fellow dragons that happen to have joined or is from the country of the other side.
