Alli Taldiir (WIP Character sheet)

(This is kinda set up like a story but I feel it conveys Allis personality without having to do one of those long boring lists of useless information)

Alli is/was a pirate captain in league with an organization of bandits on land lead by a man named Smaug. Alli is kinda Weasley and greedy and generally kind of a coward who will do just about anything to get out of the sticky situations he gets himself into. He will bribe, steal, charm, and lie to get what he wants, including some rather fishy tactics to get out of debt with Smaug, before doing something shady and falling back into debt with him. Being an elf this has gone on for decades with no end insight, and Smaug starts getting fed up with Alli avoiding him and not paying my him what he’s due. One day however, Allis luck runs dry and he gets caught in a very compromising position, both with Smaug and the law.

There is a bounty on Allis head and many a ranger and paladin have tried and failed to cash in on him. Until now.

Alli is terribly afraid of death, and the threat of death is often a driving force that keeps him under Smaug’s thumb. One day Alli decides death will no longer have a strangle hold on him. Being a rather impressive mage, he is relatively skilled in necromancy among other things, and decides he’s going to cheat death and become a lich.

The whole liching process (1) goes according to plan, that is, until one of his crew betrays him and tips off the cops as to where he is hiding. The ritual is one step away from being complete, all that is left for Alli to do is to die basically, when law enforcement raid his hide out and arrest him, arrest him, and sentence him to death at the gallows.

Alli is unfazed, having completed the ritual and creating his phylactery~ Alli waits in jail to die. At the same time Smaug has come around to collect Allis rather substantial debt once again, only to find the slimey elf captain on death row. Alli is fairly smug with himself, if this works he will become a lich and Smaug’s death threats will no longer be an issue, and if it doesn’t, well, he’d rather die on the gallows than whatever gruesome torture Smaug has in store for him. Smaug and a few of his bandits try to jail break Alli to get him to pay up but fail as Alli is uncooperative.

On the day Alli is to be executed, he sees Smaug and his gang among the on lookers and their malicious gaze sends daggers of fear into him. He is lead up to the high platform and the noose is placed around his neck. His crimes are read off and the whole pomp and circumstance of a public execution of such an infamous pirate are gone through. When asked his final words, Alli looks out into the crowd and meets Smaug’s piercing gaze. He shift uncomfortably anxious to get this over with he blurts our.

“Can we get this over with, I have shit to do...”

The crowd chuckles a bit at his brashness, before the lever is pulled and Alli left swinging. The fall breaks his neck but he does not die and instead squirms as he is left to struggle for several minutes.

What Alli had expected and hoped for was that he would be taken down and throw into a pauper’s grave, and would simply tunnel his way out once the liching was full complete in death.

Instead, his body was moved to a different gallows on the docks of the town and a sign reading “pirate” was put around his neck, and the corpse was left there as a warning especially to his crew not to return.

Liching takes time, a truly god llike mage could finish it in a matter of hours maybe less, but even being above average and considering the circumstances, alli’s body was left to the elements for almost two weeks.

In that time, Smaug tried to get his money out of his crew and cronies, all of which gave rather cryptic responses, as Smaug was totally unaware of allis lich plan. Fed up and frustrated, Smaug stood on the docks over looking the water, when something grabbed his attention. He turned to look at the hanging body and thought he’d seen it twitch. Odd but probably just the wind. But no, it twitched again, harder this time, and Smaug approached.

“You sneaky little bitch...” he said as he saw allis corpse struggle for a few minutes, coming to terms with just how far the sleezy pirate was willing to go to avoid settling his debt. Allis eyes opened a cloudy blue color but still seemed to focus on Smaug as a look of panic filled him.

“A little help?” He choked out. Smaug’s laughed, a smug chuckle as he’d finally gotten the upper hand.

“Are you going to pay me?” Not quite comprehending his vulnerable state, and over estimating the intimidation of his now undead self, Alli responded

“Over my dead body” Smaug’s eyes glistened with venom and petty vindictiveness. He looked around and found a cargo crate open at the edge of the doc filled with jars of honey, perfect.

“Well we already have seem to have gotten there then...such a shame for you to waste such a pretty face, even in death...” Smaug took the honey and smudged it all over Allis face, and having his hands still bound behind him Alli could do nothing to resist except sputter and squirm, “I’ll be back soon to see if I have ‘convinced‘ you yet “

Smaug returned to the docks several days later. It was the peak of summer and the days were hot and humid, and flies and other critters were abound as the fishermen brought in their catches.

Allis head is dipped low ok his chest and every so often you could hear him sputter and cough, Wether the dock workers noticed or cared enough about the undead was uncertain, but it mattered little. Smaug reaches and tilted allis face up causing him to begin struggling again.

The sticky sweetness had done exactly as Smaug has intended. Holding him by the chin, Smaug could see the damage done. The dock flies, attracted to the honey, as well as the fresh corpse, had eaten away the most prominent features. The nose, eyes and parts of the lips were gone as well as holes burrowed into the flesh of the cheeks. What Smaug cared about the most though was almost invisible in the day. Two dots of green light that sat unfocused I the empty sockets.

“Well are you ready now?” Smaug asked almost innocently, smirking as the green lights grew sharper and moved to focus on him.

“Bite me” the voice was clearer than the day before but was still choked by the rope around allis neck.

“That wasn’t a yes or no~”

“Fine... now let me down ....” smaugs smirk grew wider as he cut the rope from the gallows but not the ropes for his hand, and simply threw the sticky lich over his shoulder as he walked away.

(1) my significant other and I have developed a particular process to create a lich, which involves over powering the soul of another being to act as a battery for the phylactery as well as a house for the lichens detached soul . Usually this domination is done by force but there are rare instances where two mages agree to share the phylactery and create a tandem bond which is stronger than most other phylacteries. Even rarer still are phylacteries made by from a soul willingly giving itself over to the power of the mage, these consensual bonds are the strongest and most effective in the magical world but only a handful are known to have been successful and even fewer existing in the present.
