This is a story that likely would never be told. Emaire doesn't speak, nor is she literate. Emaire doesn't offer to explain herself nor push her spirituality on others. Emaire simply is. And few would ask her for her story beyond asking for an explanation for why she is so big. But if one gazed into the massive badger's memories, and drained the stories from her mind, they might find this one. So, although it may never be told, it exists here, in her mind.

Emaire's a character I've had for longer than Deirdre. Call her Redwall-inspired, if you will. But since Deirdre's having to take a break from many mission types in Ironclaw, I made Emaire to be a more stable character for the campaign. And her backstory fits pretty precisely with the setting. So...here she is.

I notice I rate my stories a lot more conservatively than most people. But this is "graphic violence" of an extended bit, plus the "tasteful nudity" bit, so...brown border and mature theme it is! And no, not all of my characters have violent or depressing backstories. But they do make it easier to write an engaging short story about. And...I find value in stories that make me cry sometimes. Emaire's, Deirdre's, Hoshi's...I actually think some of them are my best writing, too. I hope you agree.
