It's been exactly two years since Vore Tournament 2.0.0 has been released, as a reboot of the now defunct 0.7.0 branch. During this time roughly 10 new features, 10 gameplay changes, 15 bug fixes, and many smaller modifications have been added to the Git repository. As of this month they're available to the community, with the second release of the project Vore Tournament 2.0.1. You can find the list of modifications in the CHANGES.md file, here are the most important highlights since the previous release:

- Scripts for launching Vore Tournament under Windows and Linux are now included. Users of those platforms should no longer need to manually create a shortcut and add the parameters by hand.
- Proper micro / macro bounding boxes. Previously we were unable to change the scale of the actual collision box, only the visual size of the player model was altered... having only the illusion of smaller / larger size caused many issues. Large players may now be too big to fit in some areas (without crouching) whereas small players can be tiny enough to enter tight spaces inaccessible to normal size players.
- Machine learning for bots. The AI learns which players are usually a predator or prey during the match, and are more likely to chase or avoid individuals based on how they perceive them against the vore traits desired by that bot.
- Recursive vore is now allowed. Predators can maintain their prey after being eaten, allowing players to be the prey of players who are themselves the prey of other players.
- Convert the team healing system to reverse digestion, instead of automatically healing team mates when they're the prey of an ally. This allows team mates to safely eat enemies while also healing their allies.
- Allow peeking outside the stomach and through the predator's mouth when using the zoom key as prey.
- Fix prey being released at the respawn position of the predator instead of the location where the predator died.
- Add a new set of default bots, based on characters with specific personalities and likes / dislikes. Each character is briefly documented inside the bots.txt file.

Full instructions for running Vore Tournament are available on the official repository:

- Download and install the latest version of Xonotic.
- Download and unpack the 2.0.1 tag of Vore Tournament from its Gitlab repository.
- Place the directory inside the root Xonotic folder, then rename it to remove the version from the end of the directory name so that it's called just data_voretournament.
- Run voretournament-windows.cmd on Windows or voretournament-linux.sh on Linux: This should launch the game on all 64bit versions of the OS.

Is there any way to play without naughty bits showing or is that not in the game?

MirceaKitsune

Posted by MirceaKitsune 2 months ago Report

They're part of the player models, it's how the originals were built. If you wish to avoid them you'll need to use the custom ones available in the repository (labeled with "vmdl"): https://gitlab.com/voretournament

Are there any videos of gameplay?

MirceaKitsune

Only the old announcement video. It's not easy to make and upload these, so I only posted the attached screenshots for now.

Is it, like, an online game?

MirceaKitsune

Posted by MirceaKitsune 2 months ago Report

It can be played both online and offline: Just like Quake or Unreal Tournament, you can play locally with bots or multiplayer with real folks. Sadly there are no people running servers at the moment.

So is there same size vore? Or is it only macro.

unknownincognitoguy

Posted by unknownincognitoguy 2 months ago Report

Also, when you digest an opponent, is there weight gain?

MirceaKitsune

Posted by MirceaKitsune 2 months ago Report

Players shrink / grow with health: 50 HP is fully micro, 150 HP is fully macro. Since you gain health when you digest other players, technically that counts as weight gain.

Is it possible for macros to eat other macros?
And is there a way to struggle?

MirceaKitsune

Posted by MirceaKitsune 2 months ago Report

Same size vore is possible, which includes micro on micro and macro on macro. Note that the size difference greatly affects how easy or hard it is to eat or be eaten.

Alright, so have played this a few times, not 100% sure how to actually devour someone though it seems I've done it by accident a few times or more. Seems to run a little clunky at times, is still enjoyable since I finally got it working, but sometimes it's hard to eat or get eaten by enemies even with hardest difficulty set.

Stand close to players and look at them until the crosshair turns to a "!" or "?", then hold the E key to eat them or the F key to feed yourself to them. The movement is still pretty rapid so it may take a little getting used to at first.

vore2412

Posted by vore2412 2 months ago Report

When I use the E button it keeps saying I have nothing to digest. It seems fairly random that I can actually eat prey, and even though I'm more of a prey person myself, I still try a bit to devour opponents.

vore2412

Posted by vore2412 2 months ago Report

And yes, the "!" is showing when I do it too.

vore2412

And I found the problem. The vore swallow and regurgitate keys hadn't been set. I guess the digestions I got were NPC's feeding for whatever reason.

MirceaKitsune

Posted by MirceaKitsune 2 months ago Report

That happens if you start Xonotic before Vore Tournament during the first run. Type bind_vt in the console to reset them, which you open with the ~ key.

vore2412

Posted by vore2412 2 months ago Report

Vore Tournament was opened first, just the swallow button hadn't been configured. That's good to know though, I had reset configuration and couldn't find any of the vore commands so I uninstalled and reinstalled the whole thing fresh after removing every trace of xonotic and Vore Tournament from my computer.

vore2412

Posted by vore2412 2 months ago Report

Alright, so new question. How do you get a team mate to regurgitate you during team play?

MirceaKitsune

Posted by MirceaKitsune 2 months ago Report

They do that automatically when you're finished healing by default.

vore2412

Posted by vore2412 2 months ago Report

Yeah, waited on that for several minutes as first one bot than another decided I'm vulnerable prey, sadly didn't get released, might have been a bug in that run...but I've noticed a few other bugs. Being shown in the mouth when you're fully swallowed, a few when the bot's freeze, bot's standing still for no reason. The micro/macro is something the bots deal with poorly when it comes to portals or low areas and such. Played some single player and not fond of one of the missions where it's a battle royal with rotating weapons and no health or weapons to find...but that's a bit more my lack of skill in the game and the fact that it's hard to devour enemies that are making you fly away with mortar rounds or other weapons that bounce you, not really something you're responsible for though I think since it was intended to be played with normal bots.

MirceaKitsune

You should only see the mouth model as a prey if you're using the zoom key, this is a new feature. Bots tend to not pick a target at times for an unknown reason, I noticed it too but couldn't find the cause. I implemented basic movement logics for micro / macro bots, they're the best that is doable for now.

Neat, I'm really eager to experiment with this... after I get over my addiction to vanilla Xonotic. ^^;

I just have two questions, if you don't mind.

One: is it possible to play with this mod while still using the vanilla player models? (The furry models are great, don't get me wrong, but I like the idea of these furries munching on a lone human girl.) Two: Is this compatible with the old sandbox mod you developed years ago? Because... I kiiiinda want to use this mod to RP and design custom scenes and even maybe create a few comics. ^^;

MirceaKitsune

Posted by MirceaKitsune 2 months ago Report

Thank you, glad you like it! The Xonotic player models can be selected in VT, but you can only be a prey as them: They don't have the vore assets needed for preds, and I never plan on giving them those myself.

As for the sandbox mod, that's independent and should cause no interference. So it should indeed be compatible.

NotTadpole

Posted by NotTadpole 2 months ago Report

Entirely fair, I was planning on only being prey as them anyway. ^^;

I'm glad to hear it. Could you explain how sandbox works, though? I'm kinda lost on how to use it...

MirceaKitsune

It's been a while and I don't remember... am pretty busy this month as well. Open the console with ~ and type "apropos sandbox" then press Enter: This should list all relevant cvars that you can use to enable and modify the system.

Is the proper game directory loading? Do you see the anthro player models and VT loading screen?

FishWithLegs

Posted by FishWithLegs 4 weeks ago Report

yes. I do get the VT loading screen and I also see the anthro player models. I have no idea what's up.

MirceaKitsune

If only the game mechanics aren't working, you might have downloaded the master version instead of the release... which does not contain the compiled game code as it's for development only. Make sure you're downloading it from this link:

FishWithLegs

Posted by FishWithLegs 4 weeks ago Report

alright. after downloading the link that you have given me (thank you!), I'm still having trouble with the mutators not popping up when making a game. I don't know if it is just me doing something wrong or not I have no clue.

MirceaKitsune

Posted by MirceaKitsune 4 weeks ago Report

If you're launching from the cmd script in the data_voretournament directory, it shouldn't be doing that, I'm confused myself why it would. If you press "i" during a match, do you see vore and macro listed as mutators?
