I've been playing New Vegas again. What I wouldn't give for a remaster, the game is so much better than Fallout 4 writing wise.

Anyway, Nightstalkers are genetically engineered coyote/rattlesnake hybrids in-game, and yes, they do swallow people whole according to the lore. This particular specimen didn't quite manage to get its meal down all in one gulp and is sleeping for a bit to let digestion make room for the feet.

Nightstalkers have snake fangs and generally poison their prey to death, but if they are like real snakes I expect that they don't waste poison. That means if you're incapacitated you're going to get swallowed, whether you're still alive or not. Of particular concern is that you may get swallowed feetfirst and recover from the poison with nothing but your face sticking out and your legs being digested. Not the most pleasant way to go. 83

Big Mt (Old World Blues) Nightstalkers see through stealth at a huge distance, even Stealth Boys. Indoors you can just assume that if you can see them they can see you, even with 100 Stealth. The one exception is if they are facing directly away at the end of a long hall.

soo they would see if someone of their own got a nice meal ;p or if some human needs a stealth coating n.n

Don’t forget about the nightstalkers with the stealth boy mutation up by Jacobstown, imagine getting ate by thin air

Some of them in Big Mt are like that as well. Fortunately it doesn't seem to be a widespread mutation.

Even more impressive is the compressed timetable Obsidian had to work with: 18 months (3/4 the development time an RPG is supposed to have) of which the developers could only really spend 10 on actually building the game. Props really have to be given for how good a game we got.

Nighstalkers is a favorite from those games^^

Best fallout without a doubt. Though it should come as no surprise when it was made by much of the people who made the original fallout.
About the only good thing bethesda has done with the series was making the power armors cool in 4 and the deathclaws alot cooler, albeit also made the deathclaws alot weaker. Even at endgame of New vegas I never wanted to mess with them.

There is a lot of good stuff in 4, like weapon mods and better combat in general, but the quests and dialogue options in NV are head and shoulders better.

Plus, Fallout 4 (and fallout 3 for this matter) allows you to keep playing and exploring instead of just ending the game when you do the final story mission

I guess that's true, most certainly if you play a melee class. But, I didn't buy an RPG for good combat, I came for the dialogues and quests. Which, as you say were miles better in NV
Someone made a good short comparison video of it. https://youtu.be/CSKFRw5Q2vc

They were really lazy with dialogue and quests in 4. It's still a good game, but not anywhere near as good as NV.

deathknight

well it ate a normal skinny guy...if it was like SPC Akers in Old world blues..it would choke to death xp

Strega

That nightstalker just wasn’t determined enough. 83

hey it needs to grow larger and eat it's raiders first before it can eat the big guys! as long as it's not a death claw

I think someone tried to make a mod for these to be in fallout 4. Might be only on nexus or the stupid bethesda store

Strega

I’ve seen a nightstalker Dogmeat replacement mod.

There is something called nightstrikers but yeah. Only a replacer mod. So few creature mods.

new vegas is still my favorite fallout game. always had the amusing thought of what if one ate Violet, the fiend sub luietnant, could be a bit interesting with a super predator tripping balls XD

Strega

Posted by Strega 4 years ago Report

I expect that would happen if they are any Fiend, given most of them are hopped up on drugs. Nightstalkers might even get hooked on secondhand drugs. 83

Logical, only reason i think her is she is small enough, and lives off the main camp, and unlike cook cook well she is a bit more petitie.

tbh if her dogs got peckish though the same results could occur, the thought of psycho fueled dogs with voracious repercussions is a terrafiying sight. XD

I am most curious if it's possible to tame these creatures in-game... They are part canine, so it might be possible

Strega

Posted by Strega 4 years ago Report

There is a random encounter of a merchant with a tame Yao Guai in Fallout 3 and an intelligent Deathclaw in FO1 or 2, so anything is possible.

Strega

Also, there is a Charisma perk you can take that makes Nightstalkers (among other critters) non-hostile.

UnknownGamer21

Posted by UnknownGamer21 4 years ago Report

Uh... I forgot about that charisma perk... Okay then, now I'm gonna go make a fallout ex-ncr ranger OC who has a bunch of pet/tamed night stalkers

I’ve had a lot of practice drawing shoes. 83
