I guess you could say being confronted by the truest form of a Goddess mind-breaking. And he'll be locked, aware and screaming and silent to everyone, for the rest of Strea's existence.
I really enjoyed this whole arc, was really surprised Abla was the new recruit (figured it'd be the Gallant Gadget) but I'm happy we got some more morally questionable additions.
For the record I think the bear deserved a better fate . Like it’s seems that he isn’t inherently evil . He was a simple pawn and had no choice in the matters .
He wasn't a pawn, but he certainly wasn't the mastermind. Like I've previously mentioned, I'm not one for black-and-white moral systems (which tends to be exaggerated with/expressed through Lauren, who could literally delete morals if she wanted to), but The Bear was less evil and more evil-complicit. He knew what he was doing, but he knew no other life by that point in time.
Also, he pushed the "sister" button, willingly. It's up to interpretation whether he had learned if Lauren had become unbound by that point in time.
I do like these comments of yours, Doomed. I hope you don't get the wrong idea from my responses.
Now that's one way to end this chapter with a bang. Hopefully they close the portal as soon as they return home, otherwise Lauren is going to have to explain what radiation sickness is.
As for The Bear's fate, Lauren sure knows how to hand out the hard ones. Sort of reminds me of SCP-3001, but I don't think The Bear is going to have any more company in his personal Void, sentient or otherwise.
Sad to see a grand sorceress go, but if she was willing to commit such a horrific crime upon her people, I'm not that sad. Not knowing for sure your canon, I wouldn't bet on having gotten all of her progeny with that one blast, though. Missions of genocide don't tend to work out neatly, especially not in stories. Sentries posted on the surface who'll report back to an irradiated crater, or hidden town of deserters from the war on the other side of the wastes.
Kinda mean to leave Molly hanging on her big question like that. Otherwise, I like Alba. The whole crew might be scoundrels, with how rash and prone to overkill they are, but it's nice to have a second someone who has no delusions of heroism. Something something I expect an Alba-Core tuna joke in the next arc.
Didn't occur to mention it at the time, but I'm impressed that demon Valentina didn't churn Lauren, even with the knowledge now that Lauren could reform and had no power to stop her. Props to her!
The scene with the accountant demon was horrific. Poor thing. She wouldn't have been any better off had they spared her, all things considered, nor do they have a great track record with humans that inconvenience them either, but damn if it feels like their travels with Valentina haven't really updated their appraisal of demonic personhood.
I quite enjoyed writing it. That setting has a special place in my heart. It would have been very easy to make it all take place in a city like Yewleek, a 1920s-40s New York/Chicago proxy, or to make all the cities in that style, but I find that that era has plenty of other aesthetics to choose from, too.
The underground city wasn't inspired by anything in particular, but the Agonized Lands sure were.
As if there are any other kinds of Grand Sorceress situations.
The Bear's fate might not be deserved, but he is far from innocent. I like to leave his backstory vague enough, that he was a war hero in the Dusted Realm, whether as a natural resident, unwitting Core Realm emigrant, or agent for the major Bandit Lord, whom he somehow got involved with more directly.
I'm sure there's a few Enemy scattered around, though not as organized.
Molly probably already knows the answer.
Alba is one of my favorite characters to write for. I kept three tabs of '20s, '30s, and '40s slang open for at least two whole months during SF just for her. After I got comfortable with her speech patterns after SF, I only look up specific slang when I can't create or remember anything myself that would fit.
One might say that Valentina is on the path towards Demonself-control.
One day they'll get over their biases, probably.
How was the Cammia cameo? Was the Supreme Succubus being dead a disappointment or a relief? Favorite locale? I hope you liked Maricica. That's not a question, but it's staying in, anyways.
Cammia's nice, but she simply didn't do enough for there to be anything more to say. She was there!
Were it not for the Freezy succubus, whom I frankly should I have spoken about then (I found her quite fascinating and mourned her suicide) I frankly would have been relieved that the Dusty succ was dead. I tend to find "goddamnit a giant bitch ate us and we gotta find our way out" threads exhausting and repetetive (one more reason I liked the arc, I suppose).
But now I just kinda want to see a succubus who's as rational as Freezy without the death drive. Be nice to leave at least one of them around, maybe in a realm where the sorceress is dead, indisposed, or must be killed, as a better demonic steward.
Favorite locale would have been Yewleek, but only by virtue of it having been the place they spent the most time. I don't think the other places got enough attention to become characters in their own right. Like, fuck, we met their superheroes only once each.
Mimes, clowns, gladiators, and other slapstick comedians will always have a place in my heart and my skirt, as short as our time with Maricica was. Shame we didn't get to see her best mock double-penetration.

Short for this arc, but good none the less. Lauren should give a temporary immortality to Alba until she's trustworthy or they part ways.
A shame there was no hammerspace happening, but did Lauren mindbreak the bear or just separated his mind from his body?

Yeah, it'll probably happen soon next series.
I guess you could say being confronted by the truest form of a Goddess mind-breaking. And he'll be locked, aware and screaming and silent to everyone, for the rest of Strea's existence.

So he's sentient fat on Strea then, but nobody can hear him, except for Lauren if she wishes for it?
If that's the case, then the guy finally got the chance that so few can ever achieve, though not in the way anybody wants.
Still no hammerspace. Maybe the next arc you'll find a spot for it.
If you were to choose a monster girl (or yokai) as a pred, what would it be, since it's the season?

Lauren could, but she won't.
I'm boring, so I'd go vampire.

Hell of a way to end This one, but fitting; A Nuke in the Divide equivilent? Hell yes

Looking forward to getting back to Rita.

The detectives and the Gallant Gadget were definitely red herrings. I had fun watching for the slow realization that Alba was the one.

oh no dont worry , i make staements designed specifically to get responses from you. as i want to understand more
the bear still deserved better though

Tend to agree that the Bear said something he only knew the half-truth of and Lauren overreacted to the half he couldn't have known.

I've never completed Fallout 3. Started New Vegas first, and afterwards is when I tried F3. Never felt quite as good.
