A rabies pandemic that is still far from over. Local government politics. Employee abuse. Revenge plots. Tasty looking coworkers... They are all just things Clawdette has to deal with in the day to day life of working in a library...

(About 90% of this story is based on true events.)

My thirty-first Miss Smalls story.

((PLEASE READ!!! Now that this story has been up for almost a full day, and I have had time to see the kind of backlash I have gotten over it, I would like to please ask my readers to do one simple thing for me. If anyone posts any comments publicly that seem to suggest they did not like or agree with the content of this story, please DO NOT harass them over it. As far as I know, that has not happened yet... but I would like to ensure that it DOESN'T happen. Please remember, that if they didn't like this story, that means they must have read it. And if they read it, then they are one of my readers as well. So let's all be sure to treat each other with the respect we all deserve. Our views and opinions don't have to always match, and we don't have to be rude to each other because of that. So let's keep this a harassment-free zone and if someone doesn't like my story, they are free to let me know. If you would like to know more about the backlash I have received or would like to read my explanation as to why I wrote this story, I made a blog post about it here... https://aryion.com/g4/blog.php?id=60154 Thank you everyone, and I'll see you in the next chapter.))

I'm a bit concerned if any part of this chapter reflects your reality. if so please stop consuming corporate media it is not healthy for living creatures.

I said based on true events. Based does not mean an exact representation. Nor did I say which parts were based on such and which were fictional. Regardless, if you are referring to Clawdette's concern over rabies, that is something that has been present in these stories for over a year now, so I don't know why I'm getting comments like this now. But if that is what you are asking about, then yes, I do have concerns over a certain virus that has been going around, and with good reason. That's not something I've ever been in the closet about. If it bothers you that I addressed that, I'm sorry, but it is a constant thing I have to deal with in my day to day life.

Please elaborate on your complaint. What do corporations have to do with this?

Ribs has already further elaborated on their concerns in a private conversation with me, and I agree that their concern was valid. I have also further explained my intent with this story (which I admit, may not have been clear) and I believe the two of us have come to a peaceful understanding. So I would please ask that no one harass them over their above comment. If they wish to further explain their position publicly they are welcome to, but if not I would hope that we can all remain civil here in the comments. No one is required to give me or my stories their undying love.

That squirrel has as much luck as Cindy...

This is only like, the 2nd or 3rd time she's shown up in the series. So it's not like she's had as many close calls as Cindy has.

That was a good chapter. Some nice drama that i could tell took inspiration from real life which made it feel more real and a few nice sprinkles of vorishness throughout

Thanks. Sometimes it just helps me deal with the stress of my job by writing about the same situations from Clawdette's perspective.

Did the board meeting thing happen? Because it's absolutely terrifying that there are people like that.

The board meeting actually happened, yes. I was showing the event through Clawdette's eyes, but it was a real event that did happen which I was forced to hide in a corner and stand through because some of the people in attendance refused to let me social distance otherwise. Actually, because I was showing it through Clawdette's eyes and not my own, I kind of failed to portray just how scary that meeting was. More than once I nearly called my wife to come and get me before it was over because I thought it was about to turn into an actual riot and being one of the few people in there wearing a mask I felt like a target. From the way people were acting I was pretty sure that if the board didn't rule in favor of what the crowd wanted things were going to get violent.

The destruction of the building's plumbing at the hands of said crowd was also something that actually happened.

Holy hell - I'm so sorry you had to go through that.

This is so horrifying to read. Every sentence feels like it's dripping with so much divisive prejudice and hate, there's nothing really wrong with that, people can have whatever biases they want, but every paragraph is just a stereotype or insult, it feels so meanspirited that it feels less like an opinion piece and more like hate porn, like calling children in the community "Crotch goblins"? And I don't really have anything against hate porn, I personally don't like it, the only time I have is when it's someone who specifically holds hatred for who I am, but there's a very clear line in my mind between the mentality of hate porn vs someone's individual concerns. I like seeing what worries other people and what they think about it, but I didn't even get any insight like that from this other than anyone who has a different opinion than this woman is sub-human(or sub-anthro?) and anyone who does share this protagonists opinions are perfectly good.

But, you're kind of contradicting your own story here. You're presenting the characters who are against government control as in the wrong, but then later reveal that freedom of speech and privacy, (and presumably press) are rights that have been completely destroyed in this world when it comes to even something like personally researching historical events. That only makes me as a reader feel like these antagonistic characters have perfectly valid reasons to feel the way they do.

But more over the story itself confuses me, especially as someone who works with the public Library myself. This character has no business being in a public profession because they have zero respect for the fact that the building and service belong to the public equally, regardless of any beliefs or racial characteristics. She also has no respect for the democratic process when her opinion is outvoted.
She refers to people voting differently than her in a democratic process as betraying her.
She wants authority and rules to be respected, until authority doesn't rule in favor of her opinion, then she no longer respects it even slightly.
She falsifies government records and frames her co-workers for crimes because she disagrees with them.
Regardless of the coincidence of her backstab working and the character in question having shady money, she does this in support of a covert and non-transparent government policy to spy on civilians for studying speech the government doesn't agree with, but at the same time, but despite how authoritarian this is, she is also anti-authoritarian. She wants people to be forced against their will to do something by the police, but then she flaunts that the police are corrupt and she can get away with violent crimes with nepotism.

This is a serial killer who murdered people for racemixing, and having their inferior genes mix with her bloodline, but she gets upset at a left wing book getting vandalized by water damage.
(Also, there would be more than one of a controversial book, we prepare for this, and I've seen it happen before, but never with the content you described, in my personal expirance.)
I hope you can see why I'm incredibly confused by this. It only paints this character as a sociopath who only thinks their own feelings and opinions exist.

But, I actually think there's a really good point to be made from what you expiranced. It's scary to be suddenly in the middle of a protest you didn't sign up for. Yet, it's part of the role of the public servant. But no one close to this person consoles her and encourages her that she might not be putting herself in a healthy environment, they just encourage her that violence is the answer.

If Clawdette was actually one of the right wingers instead, I think this could make sense. In that case, her worry would be freedom of living being restricted and lost, and being forced into economic depression and poverty. This would be contrasted by her disregard for public safety, and how easy it is for her to consider killing someone, even considering killing an entire church. It would make a good strawman antagonist character that shows how being too extreme in one concern can possibly lead to wild disregard of anything else.

But instead, she wants people to die painfully because she wants them to stay safe and healthy.

All this on top of this being a self insert and a situation you describe as 90% true to life.
Normally I would end this with like, writing advice for keeping things consistent but, since you describe this as true, I'm just terrified.
I'm being honest that would be afraid to be near you in real life. And that's why I am terrified in real life. I don't want to hijack this and make this about me, but I've been threatened and attacked many times at school and work. And for the most mundane reasons, one time it was because someone overheard me saying I don't like Google's privacy policy. The idea of someone like this protagonist planting drugs in my wallet without me knowing and calling the cops is a fear I live with constantly now, and it's way more realistic than I would like it to be. But it's reality.
