This is actually kind of a sequeal to the first pony art I ever uploaded! ^-^ https://aryion.com/g4/view/396882
The idea was that once a generation, Celestia chooses a student to train up, and when they reach their full potential, she consumes them and absorbs their magics to maintain her immortality for a few more years. Luna isn't quite so picky about her meals however, and so when the time comes she simply goes out and finds a tasty pony to nom! Rarity doesn't seem quite as accepting of her fate as Twilight was though

Ohhh, lovely to see more in that universe.
I do wonder if Luna skipping that "full potential" part does mean that she simply has to eat more ponies for the same result. Luckily the late Twilight's friend and their families just outlived their usefulness.
I do also wonder if that "absorbs their magics" part means they digest their meal's souls, though that might just be my interests talking.

It's possible for sure! There's a lot I haven't figured out which is why I didn't write a full story for this one. I was thinking that Celestia doesn't strictly "need" to train a student like that tho, she just does it because she prefers the taste (Hence the implication that Celestia is just a "picky" eater). Kind of like how some Wagyu beef farmers take extra special care of the cows to make the best meat. Luna simply can't be bothered with all the extra work...
That isn't set in stone though, and there's certainly lots of room for interpretation still.

Celestia ate Twilight, and now Luna will go on to eat the remaining Elements of Harmony. They helped to save Luna from the Nightmare, and now they get to become a part of her forever, starting with Rarity.
