The Island - Page 10 - Head for the cabin. - By Michenako - Overview
Deciding that nothing could be worth the trouble, or risk, of climbing so high, she drags herself to the center of the deck, sitting down, and slowly allows herself to slide down, using her hands and feet to slow the descent. She easily reaches the cabins door, repositioning herself, so she is leaning against the cabin. She reaches her hand out, and turns the knob. It turns easily, and the door swings open, to a dark room, with the sounds of sloshing water beneath, echoing up, like a haunting melody.

She peeks inside. The light happens to be shining through the doorway, lighting up about half the room. Most of it was underwater. A few loose mattresses lay on the bottom, the water completely soaking through every fiber. A few barrels bobbed lazily on top of the water, as if they were happy to see her. She undoes her belt, setting it on the deck, wedged against the cabin wall, and deck. She drops herself into the cool water, swimming over to a barrel. The lid is still firmly attached. She drags it back to the doorway, and grabs a dagger from her belt, prying the lid off. It didn't take much at all, and the lid pops off. Looking inside, it was clearly, at one time, fruit, though by now they were clearly rotten, and completely clogged with salt water. She pushes it away, disappointed. She hadn't expected there to be much of anything, but she hoped, that hope now crushed. Obviously there wouldn't be any food still edible here. Regardless of what it was, the water would have suffocated it, and claimed it as its own. However, as she was climbing out, she did notice a small hook next to the door, with something hanging on it.

She reached out, taking it off. And she quickly realizes that it wasn't just one thing, but two. The first was a key, that looked to be of pure gold, with an intricate pattern, that seemed to be made of diamond, or a similar gemstone. It was very thin, and the design seemed to resemble that of a shield, though there was only the outline of it. She took the key, sliding it inside her short sword sheathe, to keep it from falling out.

The other item was a ring, though she had no idea what it was made of. Its feeling was strange. It felt soft to the touch, but it was completely solid, and the colors seemed to shift randomly. They swirled in a bounty of colors, going from green, to red, to yellow, to blue. Every color was faded, but it was easy to tell what color they were. She wasn't sure how it was able to change colors, or how those same colors were dulled, and diluted. She slips the ring onto her finger. She had expected it to be too large, yet somehow, it fit perfectly. She shook her hand, and the ring stayed firmly in place, yet when she went to take it off, it easily slipped down the length of her finger. "How curious..." she says, slipping the ring back onto her finger. Climbing out of the cabin, she straps her belt back on, and heads for the same spot she climbed up.
