You walk over to the rattata. Rattata live a very different life than pikachu. They live by themselves except when raising pups. Pikachu mate for life but rattata change mates every season. A healthy female pikachu usually has only one, sometimes two, pichu every year, while a rattata can produce over ten rattata pups in the same time. They need to because their lives are often short and brutal. They are the main source of food for predators around the forest.
"Um, excuse me," you ask the rattata. You were always taught to be polite to rattata. Your father told you once, 'be nice to them. They keep the predators full so you don't have to.'
The rattata stops drinking and looks up at you, "what pikachu." Their short lives make them blunt and crass.
"I was wondering if you know the way to Thunder Mountain?"
"Never heard of it," she goes back to drinking water.
"Well, maybe you could point me to a safe path?"
She stops drinking and looks right at you, "HA! You're a funny pikachu. I'll give you some advice, turn around and go back to your little tribe. You have no idea how lucky you are to be born a pikachu. Do you want to know how many times I've almost died in the last week alone? I've seen friends and family ripped to shreds, swallowed alive and torn in half, literally in half, and those were the lucky ones. There's not one god damn safe path out there, trust me. Now, let me finish my drink in peace."
Well that was useless but you don't know what you expected. You look around at your remaining options.
