"I'm sorry, I was messing around and didn't know you'd take me seriously." He rubs a hand on his face. "Please, would you come inside and take a look around?"
She retreated back a half step, shrinking away from him. "I don't know, you're a strange one. Not sure if I can trust you." A worried look grew on her face. "I bet you'll try to molest me in my sleep."
He jerked back like he had been punched in the face. "No! Never! I wouldn't do anything like that!" Yet the simple suggestion overwhelmed him, and he thought about her sleeping alone in her room, defenseless. "Anyways, I'm a..." His face turned red as he nearly admitted a secret.
She waited a moment for him to finish, but after it became clear he wouldn't she walked back to his door. "I guess it wouldn't hurt to take a look around, but I'd like a lock on my door, if there isn't one already."
"Sure, I can ask the landlord." Motioning for her to join him inside the apartment.
