Heir to the Throne - Page 15 - To the court. The nobles get ideas if you don't keep them in line. - By loginerror8 - Overview
You've had your fun for the moment, and though your sack protests to the thought of waiting around and listening to petitions, it's time to get to work. You turn away from the groups and head towards the main hub of activity.

The journey to the main throne room where court would be held wasn't an especially long one. The castle was large enough, but the rooms you frequent were still near, both to make sure you would be able to arrive in time should someone need to call you, as well as to make sure that you knew you were being watched. This was a land of predators, and its ruler was the greatest one of all.

As you entered the main throne room, you were greeted by the sight of the gathering nobles as well as those of your siblings. Nina, the eldest of your sisters, and Jonah, your only brother, were already assembled, taking positions on either side of the main thrones. Both had their eyes focused ahead, looking over the growing crowds as though staking their own claims before the discussions had even started. The bulge in your pants drew only a momentary glance and an almost inaudible sigh of exasperation from Nina herself. Not that she was in much shape to criticize. The remains of her most recent meal were still present enough to add a slight bulge to her dress.

But the figure that dominated the scene was that of your mother. Queen Isolde was every bit the monarch of Vorania. A lifetime of predation had left her much taller than average, causing her to tower over the assemblage when standing, and gaze at eye level even when sitting. Her composure was ice cold, and her gaze was intense enough that few could hope to hold it for long.

Beside her, the king cut a decidedly less impressive figure. A man obviously used to the comfortable lifestyle, but lacking the trappings of a proper predator, he was really just a boy-toy that your mother had picked up between proper co-rulers. He certainly loved to lord his current lordship over anyone who would listen, but you doubted he'd last more than a couple weeks before your mother decided he wasn't worth the trouble. At the very least, your father had been a much more impressive figure before he'd fallen to his wife's hunger.

Taking your place beside Jonah, you spared your younger brother a nod of acknowledgment that he returned before settling in to hear the petitions of the kingdom.
