The Accidental Adventurer: The Mansion - Page 2 - Join Onyx. - By KavenBach - Overview

Onyx, you decide, is the only chance you have of surviving this ordeal.  Any small creatures are doomed to a messy death, as she has told you so many times… even if her magic is unreliable right now, the sorceress knows this place better than you do, and could at the very least guide you to safety.

You know you can’t just try to outrun the spider and get to Onyx’s side; the spider will simply follow.  You have to kill it, somehow… or at the very least, disable it.  It’s half your size… you should be able to fight it, if you can just find a weapon…

You look around frantically, but nothing hits your eye immediately.  There’s an old quill pen, but that’s way too big for you now.  The bottle of ink is useless… but you do spot what would normally be a small, trombone-shaped paperclip nearby.  You run over to it and pick it up, raising a cloud of dust.  The thing is half as tall as you are, but it’s still shiny and it’s not too heavy.  It’s not much of a weapon, perhaps, but when the spider climbs over the edge of the desk, you face it as though you were a lion tamer, holding the paperclip defensively in front of you.

The spider is unimpressed; it hurries toward you, its fanged pseudopods raised in anticipation of the fateful poisonous bite.  Despite its eight-legged speed and attempts to knock the paperclip out of your hands, you manage to hold your own for a bit, keeping it at bay and possibly bruising its face and eyes.

Then the spider decides to change tactics; instead of trying to knock away the paperclip, it merely grips it, firmly, with its fangs and forelegs.  You jerk and pull, trying to wrench free of its grip, but can’t seem to; the two of you circle in place a bit, struggling.

Suddenly, the spider lunges, trying to propel itself over the paperclip to bite you.  You have an instant to decide what to do: hang onto the paperclip and get bitten, or let go and throw yourself away from the bite, thus ending up unarmed but still unhurt.  You let go and throw yourself away.

Unfortunately, as you moved and struggled, you ended up with your back to the edge of the desk.  You throw yourself away from the spider… only to fling yourself right off the desk!  You yelp, then scream as you fall… and have a moment to realize you’re falling toward Onyx’s wrapped form… and the web…

You land almost on the edge of the shelf, your right hand extended and hitting Onyx’s wrapped thighs.  Unfortunately, though you aren’t hurt, the web here is just as sticky as where she landed earlier… your frantic struggles are useless.  Your bare flesh adheres to the stuff like it was meant to be there…

“You… fool,” you hear Onyx whisper hoarsely, through the silk holding her.  “You… should have run.  I’m dead… already.”  There is a pause of a few seconds, just long enough for you to feel the web vibrate… the spider has followed you, and is coming to finish you off.  “Thanks for trying, though… means a lot to me… good-bye, darling…”

Then the spider’s furry legs are climbing over your legs, and you’re screaming even more, and pain erupts in your lower back as it sinks fangs into you and pumps venom into your bloodstream…

Everything that you saw happen to Onyx, you now experience firsthand.  You keep screaming and struggling, but soon weaken and can only whine and squirm as your body seems to grow heavy; then, you are reduced to helpless gasps and twitches as the paralysis becomes complete.  The world starts spinning around and around as the spider begins to wrap you up, and your head flops around painfully for your neck until the silken strands restrain it.  After a time, the spinning gives you nausea, but your muscles aren’t even able to make you throw up, and it passes once you have been completely wrapped.

The spider climbs over you again.  Side by side it drags two woman-shaped cocoons behind the potions, out of sight of other predators.  Side by side it hangs both you and Onyx, like edible trophies in its larder.  Side by side the two of you whimper helplessly and twitch as it adds more venom, or maybe a different type, biting you at the calf.  Side by side you hang, and whimper, and fall silent as the new substance does its work, liquefying your insides through your bloodstream, spreading upward to your organs.  Side by side you are both already dead when it sucks out the juice that your muscles, bones, and organs have turned into… and side by side you hang there for years thereafter, dry, empty husks that aren’t even woman-shaped anymore.
