You climb up in the direction the howl came from. It was audible so it shouldn't be too far. After only a few leaps and bounds you come across a crystal clear lake with various fish pokemon, mostly Magikarp, in your sight despite being so deep underwater.
You scope the area until you find what you are looking for. You can sort of make out what the predator is from a distance on the other side of the lake. It's light brown and four legged.
It's a warm day and the water doesn't have any dangerous predators, only smaller fish pokemon. You could approach this predator from land or water.
