World of Vorecraft - Page 274 - Travel to the Barrens - By swerto - Overview
You follow the road out of Mulgore, stealing past the gate one night and follow along the road towards the Crossroads settlement. The land is, well, Barren here. Few things grown, and whatever does is brittle and dried out. You stop to rest under the shade of a tree every once in a while, by the evening you spot the Crossroads and make your way towards it once darkness falls.

The first thing you do is make for the water trough the animals drink from, your appearance has no startling effect on the exotic mounts present and you drink your fill. The orc guards here seem tired or incompetent so you easily sneak over towards the Tavern where you hope to find some scraps. Your poking around behind the Tavern when you hear familiar voices within. You lean close and your keen ears hear Taka!

“Eight feet long he is! Coat as white as snow, mark me if you see him steer clear, hide your wife, and call your friends!” Taka rumbles, she sounds slightly drunk, have you grown too eight feet?

“Ohya?” challenges an unseen orc. “An wut stake haff you got in hiz demise?” The Tavern got a little bit quiet then. “He, he killed members of mah tribe.” Answered Taka at length. “But I got my daughters now, and we got some magic. Right Nidloo… Nidloo?... Bah.” Calls Taka. “Nidloo got her druid friend to give us a pendant of exhaustion, that wolf Sifr, he won’t get away from me again…”

You slip away from the Tavern and prepare to make your escape from Crossroads when you spot Takas eldest daughter Nidloo, sitting out on the plains nearby, alone, and watching the stars. She may have inherited her mother’s looks, but she lacks all common sense and the wisdom of age it seems… You sneak up behind her, taking note of the pendant hanging off her neck. You prepare to spring when she suddenly turns to face you. You freeze in place waiting for the scream.
Instead she smiles. “Ah, Sifr wasn’t it?” She asks. Not moving or getting up. “Come closer Sifr, come sit with me and talk.” She pats the ground beside herself. You stand still, could it be she lacks her mother’s Vendetta? You slowly oblige the young Tauren woman and sit beside her cautiously. “My father is missing…” She states finally. “I fear the worst and… and I don’t.” She turns away from you. “My mother told me about the Grim totem, how they killed my sister.” She doesn’t know, you conclude. “And despite a lack of details, I realize you must have, done what animals do with my mother, after rescuing her.”

Of course you are unable to reply. “When I saw my mother so big… I… It was…” She can’t finish her sentence but you smell the heat begin to rise from her. “It was the most erotic thing I have ever seen in my life.. I… Ahem. She just swelled so big with life and… I’m a druid apprentice and we… I’m sorry it isn’t proper.” She stutters. You place a paw on her leg. “I love animals, when I realized what you were capable of I learned as much about as possible. Your kind are nearly extinct, or were. Listen, there is someone you must speak too. A troll witch. She resides in…”

“Dustwallow, now I believe. You need to trust me, she is an expert on your kinds and the Ancients.” She reaches up to her neck and unhooks the magical pendant. Reflexively you back off. “It alright, here, so you’ll trust me. Eat this, you can use it once a day.” Nidloo places the pendant on the ground, it looks made of brass. It is strange, it’s almost like making a deal with a friendly version of Taka.
