You begin to try to talk her out of this and suggest that maybe now is not the time. “Jackie, I know you’ve talked about this a lot but do you really think that you’re ready to sup…” You’re interrupted by one of the store clerks coming up to you.
“Is he going to be the lucky baby?” she asks Jackie, referencing you. Apparently she has seen this kind of thing before. Jackie smiles and nods in response as your face sinks a little bit. “Oh you two are just going to be too cute!” the clerk coos. “Have you set a date yet?”
“No, she’s just curi…” You begin to say.
“I was going to take him out to dinner and do it tonight.” Jackie says. You try to keep your jaw from completely dropping as panic rushes through you.
“Congratulations to both of you!” The clerk says. “Now have you been rebirthed before?” She asks you.
You’re startled by the question. No, you’ve not been. You’d heard of unbirth and rebirthing, but you had no idea that people actually did it.
“You’re in for a real treat.” The clerk says. “Both of you. Of course, you don’t have to do anything, it’s just like starting all over again for you. She has to worry about becoming a mommy.” You still can’t believe that you’re hearing this. You stand there, completely dazed by this while the clerk takes Jackie and shows her some clothes options.
“You have to take into account that he’s going to take on some of your qualities too, so there’s really know way to tell exactly what he’ll look like. He may have your hair and eyes. Have you decided if you’re trying for a boy or a girl?”
Again, shocked doesn’t even begin to describe it. You’d not thought that you might get reborn as a girl.
“Awww, Troy, you’d look so cute as a girl.” Jackie squeals. “I think we’re going to be glad for whatever we get, though.”
“Well, good luck with tonight! Jackie, you come back and see me when you need to get clothes. And Troy, I’ll be seeing you in nine months?” She asks. You hardly even remember leaving the store. You just remember the awful feeling of reality sinking in… she’s really planning on doing this.
“You know, you could have acted more excited in there.” She whispers angrily to you as you leave the store.
“I’m sorry.” You say defensively “This is just very sudden for me and it’s a little embarrassing!”
Now you’ve gone and said something stupid. Jackie suddenly gets very stern.
“It’s embarrassing to you that you’re going to be my child?!” She scolds. You try to backpedal, but she interrupts you. “You’d better get used to it because pretty soon you’re going to be.” You gulp and look down as she continues to chew you out.
“Or if you’re really too embarrassed, I’ll just eat you instead. I mean, I thought this would be fun for you and that you’d like to be my baby, but if you’d rather be shit instead you can go ahead and say that.”
You’re overwhelmed with shame. You certainly don’t want to be Jackie’s “baby”, but would you sooner die?
