You're siting peacefully on the dock staring out at the sea and trying to remember how you got here when something grabs your leg and pulls. Hard.
You're yanked off the dock and into the water, hitting your head on the way in. Your head's spinning from the hit which might be why you see the upper body of a girl growing out of the top of the octopus that's dragging you into its maw.
