Synthetic Dreamers, or SyDs, are a race of man-made sentient machines. The original prototype was constructed by a TriDelta team in the year 2029. The project seeked to improve on the previous TriDelta units, the FreeMakers. The project was rejected due to the cost of the materials required, but after the discover of the Mel SuperAsteroid in 2051 and the rich metals it held, the project was reluctantly but back into small-scale production. The problem that occurred brought on by the fact that the project was rather low-supervision, and the team became reckless, using the lack of supervision as an excuse to build the SyDs with whatever was available to them. Unfortunately, we'll never know how or why, but one SyD began to flinch during a routine checkup. It all went downhill from there, and after a short revolution, SyDs were recognized as sentients and allowed to procreate. Appearances vary, but the neon screens used to display the SyD's "face" always remains constant.
