"So, do you want to check on the rest of the garden with me?" Martha asked. "I see that we have some squash ready to be picked, and those tomatoes look good, to say nothing about the berries."
Goldie chuckled. "Alright, Momma Bear." She got up, and grabbed a basket that Martha had left on the bench. She walked towards the squash. There was some pattypan, crookneck, zucchini, roundball, and a few other varieties. Martha's chocolate-chip zucchini bread was a real treat. She looked towards the berries - blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, some strawberries that were still producing. She also noted the fruit trees with developing fruit. This garden produced most of the fruits and vegetables that the family used, helping them to be self-sustaining in terms of food, in addition to the animals raised or hunted.
