Sam looked at the mirror. His face had some hair on his chin and upper lip. Nothing like his father - that tiger could style his fur, to make his chin have a point. Of course, his mother had more fur than him, not to mention his siblings.
Sam sighed, finished his morning grooming, and walked downstairs, where he saw his mother and father, sitting at the family table, with a manila envelope by them. His siblings were standing behind them.
They looked at him.
"Is something going on?" he asked, as he sat down.
"Son, what I have here, is very important," his father said.
"Is it your will?" Sam asked. He looked at his father, concerned. "Father, did the doctor find something during your last check-up?"
The tiger chuckled. "No, but thank you for your concern, son." He sighed. "You know that we adopted you when you were three months old, right?"
Sam chuckled. "Kind of obvious. It's not a secret that I'm human."
"But what is a secret is whom your biological family is," said his mother. She passed the envelope forward. "Now that you're 18, we were able to get the file. This is rightfully yours."
Sam looked at the envelope. "What do I do with it?"
"You could find your biological family," his father said. "Or, you could let us put it in a fireproof safe until you feel that you are ready."
"We haven't opened it yet," his mother said. "We will respect your decision."
Tears came to Sam's eyes. In his hands was answers to questions he wanted to know since he realized the reason he wasn't covered in fur like the rest of his family. He looked at them. "Dad, Mom, Daryl, Elizabeth - you're the best family anyone could ever have......"
