Defictionalized - Page 2 - A gift and a mystery. - By AlexBrymm - Overview
You walk into your room, intent on relaxing after a long day, and survey your choices. You've got plenty of books that you keep meaning to read, your video games, the computer, the bright blue box on your desk, wrapped with a neat ribbon...

...Wait. A box? You note a tag on the bow, reading "A gift from the overseers". Mysterious.

You think for a moment. It's not your birthday. Christmas isn't for months. And...How did it get here? Did someone break in?

But wait, those aren't the right questions to ask. What you should really ask is...What's in the box? Intent on answering that, you remove the ribbon and look in side, finding what seems to be a wristwatch. But instead of telling time, the face of it is a simple metal panel, with a red button situated in the center. Picking it up, it's fairly thin and lightweight. You, of course, put it on, and find that it's a fine fit. "It's very fashionable", you think, "But what does it do?" You decide the best way to find out is to try it: You press the red button in the center.

Immediately, you feel it give off a light electric shock. You're surprised, but not injured. Before you can react, a tiny panel on the watch flips over, revealing a small glass device. A light shines out, and before you a strange, holographic screen condenses in the air above the watch. The words "USER REGISTERED" flicker on the screen for a moment, and then are replaced with another word: "DEF-1-CTION". All of this occurs in just a couple of seconds.

In curiosity, you reach out and touch the screen. In response to your prodding, the word disappears and is replaced with what appears to be a menu screen. Six buttons adorn this screen, with descriptions listed next to them:

(1): Open New Gateway
(2): Target Entity
(3): User Settings
(4): Global Settings
(5): Instructions
(6): Close

You note in the corner a battery supply indicator: Looks like you're at 84% right now.

You quickly decide that you should experiment with this new device: But what to try first?
