soft scratching by his window woke Cross Current from the light doze
he had slipped into, his eyes snapping open as he was jolted back to
waking so suddenly his breath caught. He all but spat out a sigh as
he rolled off the side of his bed, creeping over to slide the window

So I was pondering for a bit why I liked this particular story so much more than others. I think its the 'politics' for a lack of a better word.

Heh, vore politics, not something I had in mind when I started writing this, but it did rather develop some. I'm glad you enjoyed the story though.
