At last, the definitive account of the world-changing events of April 1889, complete with footnotes, introduction and afterword.
This one was a very, very long time coming. I started it way back in I think August, and I've been working on it off-and-on until today. Three drafts in total. Progress was slowed when I accidentally deleted the first draft halfway through writing it, literally moments after I'd written a post on Twitter about what good progress I was making. To quote Aristotle, lol, lmao.
I've not posted any writing to this site in many a year, thought I was done with it for the longest time. This is the longest story I've ever written. If I were feeling very grandiose I might even dare to call it a novella. This project was spurred on by several things:
I love the epistolary style (that is, a narrative comprised of diary entries, newspaper articles, letters etc. Think Dracula and Frankenstein) and wanted to have a go at it myself. Also at the time I started this project, I was reading Johnathan Strange and Mr Norrell (perfect book by the way) and wanted to write something historical with loads of contextual footnotes. Lastly, I just wanted to write something set in Norwich; have a go at setting-as-character. How much size smut is set in East Anglia? I'm guessing little if any. Well now, there's at least one.
I think it might also be in the running for most Cathedrals mentioned in a size story, at four. Someone call the Guinness World Records people.
