As someone who's been working really hard of late getting their camera stuff setup properly, a bit of advise. If that's a webcam, like I bet, your lighting is what's causing the funky colored artifacting.
Get rid of light in front of the camera (and especially behind you), and get light -behind- the camera, thusly light in front of you. The artifacting there especially is what I usually see from bad aperature/exposure combined with high Gain. If you've got a logitech, check advanced settings.. it's usually automatic. You want both of those bars ending up as close to the left as possible. The further left on the Exposure.. the better your frame rate, the darker the base image.. The further left the Gain, the less.. well, the less software based enhancement of the image for light levels. I find for getting the best colors so far, stereo lighting was perfect too, ergo one light up and to the left, and a matching one on the right, avoiding putting a glare on my face. Anyways, good luck on the better picture snapping.
