The tension between Niahlah and Kyrie continued for several days. Finally, Kyrie couldn't take it anymore, and she blew up at Niahlah, yelling at her and breaking down into tears. While that may not have been the best reaction, it ended up being a good thing, because it triggered a long-overdue conversation where both Niahlah and Kyrie were able to sort through some feelings.

Niahlah explained that she had been developing feelings for Kyrie... but those feelings were more akin to those of an older sister than of a lover. Niahlah felt very protective of the girl, and didn't want to harm her or hurt her in any way. She had even gone to the extent of considering adopting Kyrie in a more permanent manner than their current master/apprentice relationship implied.

This was shocking news to Kyrie, who had grown up an orphan. She had never really felt like anyone had wanted her... the fact that she had become an apprentice, rather than being adopted, was evidence enough of that. So the thought that Niahlah really wanted her as a member of her family was overwhelming to her.

Niahlah told her that, because of this, she simply couldn't view Kyrie (at least not at the present moment) as a lover. Kyrie, though slightly disappointed, could accept that. Niahlah also told her that, though she felt that Kyrie was too young to be worrying about sexual relationships, she would support her in exploring her sexuality whenever and with whomever she wished.

Most importantly, this frank conversation finally relieved the tension that had been plaguing the household for days, and life could resume as normal... both girls understanding each other (and themselves) better than before.
