One of the courtyards in the prison are infested with worms. The bigger inmates doesn't care because they are too big for the worms to eat. But for the smaller inmates, like humans, every day in this courtyard is like a russian roulette.

One game the inmates play is to undress a prisoner, throw him in the middle of the courtyard, and then stomp with their feet. Sometimes a worm will be attracted by the vibrations and curiously seek out the source. It's not always a worm will come, but this day a younger worm came.

This worm is almost full grown. In a year or so it will be a bit thicker and a few feet longer. They start small and hunt for smaller prey like rabbits, frogs, stray cats, etc. And the bigger they get the bigger the prey get.
This is the first time the worm eats a human. For a moment it looked like the human was too big, but after a long time with producing more goo and saliva it got just slippery enough to continue to engulf the victim.
Worms are very stretchy and can easilty adapt to accommodate food of this size. It's just the first that is the hardest.

This meal will probably last a couple of days. But that doesn't mean that the other inmates can feel safe. The courtyard is infested with worms, and sometimes as much as five people can get caught in just one day.

For many smaller inmates getting to this prison is almost the same as getting a death sentence. It is a cruel place, but that is also why it exists. To get rid of the society's "problems" once and for all.
