This is either yet another summoning gone wrong - this time netting a trio of hapless amateur conjurers - or someone did something right and these are just sacrifices.

Maybe the difference is that the seals are glowing this time. If something is glowing surely it has to be working!

Hmm ... I say more it went right. I say the viewer is seeing through the eyes of the summoner watching his satisfied work.
