You know, I'd love to see an alternate ending to this. Where Marcie gets rescued by either yelling to her neighbors through the pet door, or by the elf, being jealous of the human tainting her holy serpent.

While I never intended for her to be rescued from her home, I did choose to leave it open-ended for readers who'd like Marcie to be safe. The elf has no intention of telling the owner it's a human in there, but he might figure it out himself. After all, I suggested she'd live a few days at least, and surely he'd want to show off his new pet. All it would take is one person pointing out that she's very busty, for a forest elf... ;-)

I'd love to see it written as an alternate ending. You know? Have this ending here as being the one where she doesn't get found and dies, and have the other one be she gets saved and goes home to save her cat from the neighbors
