Scylla started out as a sea nymph, one of the daughters of the sea-gods Phorcys and Ceto. Scylla was said to be the most beautiful and comely of her sisters, and her charms drew the jealous rage of the witch-goddess Circe, who poured an enchanted concoction into the nymph's favourite bathing pool. When Scylla next entered, she was transformed into a gigantic monster with twelve dangling feet and six snakelike heads. Horrified, Scylla hid herself in a lightless sea cave where she could not see her own monstrous form. She developed a taste for humans, striking out from her clifftop vantage point into the strait to snatch sailors off ships. Scylla is a good deal smaller than her friend Charybdis, and six grown men, one for each of her snapping heads, is well enough to fill her up. Scylla has completely come to terms with her forced transmutation and has since left her rock and re-entered broad daylight to wander the seas. She keeps in touch with Charybdis through yelling underwater.
Scylla's necks are composed of an odd halfway-point between formless miasma and flesh-and-blood. They are definitely solid enough to snatch up a person, but they sort of fade out where they would attach to the back of her neck, and anything the heads swallow enter this point and end up in her main gullet and eventually her stomach. Her necks can extend to a huge length and are her main predatory weapons. Her tentacles are mainly for getting around.
