This pic is also known as "Sparky is very salty about the Ash VS Alain fight". Long story short, the writers of the Pokemon franchise fucked up riiight at the end of the league, stopping a very badass and flashy performance of Ash and his Pokemon (especially Pikachu and Greninja) with this stupid deus ex machina device known as Mega Charizard X...

Definitely agree with your point here lol a lot of people are upset because they basically baited everyone into watching the show to fix their declining ratings by throwing hints around to make it appear as if ash would win this time by:
1) Giving him a unique legendary mega-slaying greninja who never lost when mastering perfect-sync mode
2) He drives the champ's mega into a corner when accidentally going almost perfectly in sync for the first time before ash fainting, and was also told by the Champion herself to challenge her again once Ash won the Kalos league
3) He made it to the finals for the very first time with team rocket noting ash may win it all this time
4) The next location is Sun and Moon's Alola region which doesn't have gyms and appears to not even have an Elite 4(plus rumors say old champs like Cynthia will be returning via the S.S. Anne) meaning Ash winning the Kalos league would have been the best way to enter the Alola region, as well as possibly his last chance.
5) The title for ep 38 was "Kalos league victory! Satoshi's greatest achievement!" which again made fans think he would win...but nope the charizard-cosplayer won it all lol and even worse, He wouldn't have even joined the tournament had Ash not convinced him to join(plus his mega energy collecting is what causes team flare to begin their arc soon).
People think he will have a rematch after the villain arc finishes but to me it won't even matter anymore since it isn't for the champ title and won't complete Ash's dream. Love the pic btw!

to be fair, this is the farthest Ash has ever gotten. His best before was the Semi Finals during the Sinnoh League.
