I usually end up pondering what to say about this and then never answer but I'll try to spit it out. They generally merge bodies/souls but Bilit is sort of the greater will and its kind of like possession. The old 80s twilight zone "Chameleon" explains it well. Beings more in tune with Bilit might "rise to the surface" as well. Often less complex beings dwell within her in a sort of dream state (together or merging with one another as well) that's aroused when absorbing.
