At first things seemed a little tame when they confronted the dragoness, and the party thought they
were going to get off with just their bard sporting a giant lipstick mark on the back of his head.
Twenty minutes later they were all inside of her.

Wow... well, at least she's got enough affection for all of them. Hey, if she ever lets them out, they've got a great friend!
If... yeah, nevermind. on the other hand, there are much worse ways to get a TPK. I mean... they aren't even dead. Lucky them...

It's inconvenient and all of their clothes are going to need to be replaced. Still, could be worse, you're right.

It depends on how powerful your laptop is. If you get one I would suggest a midrange gaming laptop with a dedicated GPU that has lots of VRAM. At least a 1060 6GB card. Going for a laptop with a Ryzen 5 or 7 CPU is a good idea as well because the multithreaded performance is much better than Intel's Coffee Lake right now while also being cheaper. It will be better for when the scene you're rendering has too much stuff and your GPU can't hold it all in VRAM.
My laptop that I use right now has a Core i7 6700HQ quad core CPU with a 960m GPU that has 4gb of VRAM. It isn't as fast as I would like. The specs I gave you would probably be almost twice as good for Iray rendering.
All that said going for a desktop would be the most practical thing for a render machine. Basically get at least a six core CPU and go for the biggest NVIDIA card with the most VRAM you can afford.
Another thing is make sure you run the OS and Daz3D off of an SSD. It really won't make the render any faster but it makes actually creating the scene go quicker.

Feel free to PM me if you have further questions. I'd link some examples of laptops that I think would fit the bill but I don't know if that would be against site rules for advertising.

You're not going to get a computer that would work for this for less than $800.
