My artistic representation of a trip into madness that took place on Twitter. The moment was too incredible not to immortalize in some way. Here's the obligatory background:

I wrote a controversial opinion in reply to a random Twitter post I came across. I'd prefer not to dive into details as to avoid the usual misunderstandings: The post was a response to someone making a version of the LGBT flag containing the word "pedosexual" on it. Since human stupidity was happening, I had a few remarks to make... and no I don't defend child molesters, anyone who accuses me of that really gets their butt kicked. I posted my opinions and said what I thought, then came back a few minutes later to check what was new.

Next thing I know, within a matter of minutes out of nowhere, people were screaming at Donald Trump and the FBI (their official Twitter accounts) that I'm a child abductor on the lose. At first it seemed like some idiot was just trolling, but the entire thing dragged on for the next couple of hours with several people getting involved: They tried to actually organize search parties to hunt for me across random American towns (I'm not even from the US), some of them kept trying to get both the FBI as well as the president involved, all while I kept receiving comments of the form "they're closing in on you now, the FBI is almost at your door, you're finished". Some guy who's apparently in the US navy and is considered hot stuff spearheaded this psychotic party... I understand he works at some rescue organization, in which he's probably just made a huge fool of himself.

I've dealt with countless nasty internet arguments especially recently. But never have I dealt with multiple people losing touch with reality on me, creating a fictional story in their heads, and literally descending into madness right before me. I admit it was entertaining as heck, but also beyond creepy... I had no idea how many legit psychopaths this internet could possibly harbor. After this I'm seriously pondering whether I should completely isolate myself from people with a few exceptions, before I lose whatever sanity I have left. I don't even... I seriously do not even.

Well, what did you say?

The argument was over this flag. Keep in mind someone just showed me this post earlier... now that I know it was a 4chan hoax to discredit LGBT people, I would not take the same stance again.

I was unfortunately quick to assume that someone made that flag in an attempt to legitimately support equality for all, so I went into advocate mode. Since I'm quick to jump to conclusions like that, I told people to fuck off and stop hating about it. Apparently I hit a highly conservative community with quite a few followers in the process.

Obviously the nut minded ones assumed I must automatically be defending child molesters, being incapable of any reasoning and conversation. In this one case, assuming I'd defend such a thing wasn't even the end of it: They called Trump and the FBI because they also concluded I'm a child abductor on the lose! After nightfall most of them blocked me and shut up, which I assume is when they woke up from their delusions and realized just how badly they've made fools of themselves.

Ah. I see the problem.
I'm gonna let out a controversial opinion here, don't blindly accept whatever comes out of of the "LGBT" community.
This applies to any community really, but the "pedosexual" thing isn't just a 4chan hoax, there's been multiple journalists writing up paedophile acceptance articles (the thing to keep in mind is that 4chan isn't powerful enough conjure "outrageous" subjects on their own, they have to latch on things that COULD be morally repugnant if shown to light).

Of course there's always going to be the reactionary group that jumps on any outliers of society, but you gotta watch out for things like these. Even if they're quite dumb, they're not morally wrong, they're just trying (albeit in a vain way) to defend children they're not physically capable of defending.
Hell, even blindly supporting "equality" and "acceptance" can take a negative turn, since it's such an all encompassing term there's no actual defined barriers to it, who knows where pranksters can steer you next, possibly actual bestiality or real life torture/slavery.

I guess what I'm saying is, choose what hills you die on? Things have gone weird in modern years where you have to define your moral boundaries apart from what you just absorb from society.
Also you kinda need to take a proactive measure in doing so.

A lot of people hate me due to a difference in how we view that subject: I separate "child molester" from "people who have a sexual attraction toward children". Many don't do that: In their minds if I show any understanding toward the later, I am automatically defending the first... thus if I even speak out against people advocating murder and torture for them, I must be a horrible person.

While my reasons are my own and more unique, I've went through very bad experiences in my life because of people with those extreme mindsets. While some were hurt by abuse, I was hurt by protection justified as fighting said abuse. I have strong views on certain things for this and other reasons... sadly I often seem to be alone in them, or perhaps others are just staying more silent.

That is indeed a lesson many have tried to get me to learn, and perhaps it's time I do learn it; Even when I know I'm right, it might be better to think twice about when and where and how I put it. I tend to be reckless because I'm starting to care less about even my own safety at times... there are however others who care for me and whom are affected by my actions, and at least for them I should be more careful.

I've actually been pondering withdrawing from social media myself. I became active on Facebook roughly 2 years ago and Twitter over 6 months back, mainly to re-share furry art or discuss various subjects. It's clear this wasn't a good idea, as myself and most people are clearly not compatible in our understanding... it wastes so much of my time every day too. I should have remained far more isolated from the world... really I don't know what I didn't.

The current state of US politics, if not most of the world is really volatile and disgusting because both sides of the political spectrum have valued loud extremist point of views rather than a rational take, which gets most news outlets and journalists less money and traffic if they do that. It gets more money and website traffic to say (Liberal: Trump publicly executes immigrant family infront of Neo nazi supporters, Conservative: Liberal Californian college students beat up WW2 D-Day vets for being Nazis) rather than ANY OTHER RATIONAL OPINION. It's disgusting and it's going to take a lot of work to fix this issue, I don't believe that pedophiles are a sexuality and it's wrong to be in love with someone who can't consent, but I don't scream it at the top of my lungs and force it on people violently because being rational is the only way you can actually influence people positively.

I'm not American myself, I am from Europe. I have however always been a huge fan of America... at least until recently. The America I loved was a rational and progressive country leading the way to the future, not a sequence from the medieval ages as what we're seeing today.

The European Union is itself at a crossroads... it's uncertain which way it will go and I'm greatly questioning what's happening here; If the US goes to hell as well, this whole world is going to hell with it. I sincerely hope US citizens can put the country back together fast, which I imagine will only be possible if they find a way to impeach Trump for starters.

Doggermeister

I mean Trump won't get impeached per say, but unless he pulls a Woodrow Wilson (He won both terms as president in 1912 and 1916 by taking advantage of a republican party "Now democrat party" that was divided between two candidates, Taft and Roosevelt) he doesn't have much of a chance to get reelected.

Due to his outlandish opinions I've noticed people caring more for LGBT people, Homeless people, any minority group because they're the first to get the chopping block if any outlandish Mike Pence soiled law gets passed.

I just hate this idea that because "Oh no US elected Trump" that we have to go on a penitence walk of shame and shun the republican party and it's supporters, violence only creates more hate, as MLK said "Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that" As a society we have to look each other in the eyes and say "I can live with you no matter what, because what you are now is not what you used to be"

And the US is NOT the new fascist bastion of the world, The UK legit cares more about some asshole with a pug that can do the nazi salute than giving Trans people rights, Muslim immigrants citizenship, and a lot more things that the US has done that they haven't. Poland and Russia have the largest amounts of Neo Nazi's due to an uneducated public about the Holocaust due to a horrible Soviet era education system, and when a belief such as Nazism panders to their egocentric 99.6% white population, they get a large amount of supporters.

A bit of a rant honestly, I get what you're saying, the US is still progressive let me tell you that no matter who is in charge, but we shouldn't solely carry the burden, the world must follow as well

MirceaKitsune

Oh yeah... the UK is a place of madness. I truly wonder how it's still officially recognized as a democracy given some of the things I live to hear from there. The Tory party must be a legit religious sect of some sort.

I do hope and believe the US remains a progressive nation at its core. Sadly that's mixed with a horrible hateful and outdated culture, which just never seems to go away and stop holding the world back. I do hope that day will finally come in time.

The southern part of the US was founded in the business of slavery, unfortunately it's intertwined with it's life, culture and ideologies. With 350 years of work so much has been done for the rights of those who have been sorely lacking of their rights, we'll continue to see improvement despite the veil of hate we see the south as.

"Damn, what the heck am I supposed to do with all these freeloaders that pop into existence at my house."

I just found the idea funny.

Some internet people are crazy.

I mean, if in the views of some people disagreeing with them means you have abducted children locked in your basement, that's gotta be a weird world.
