Shoggoth

Derived from basic roots of my language.

Shogg + -oth

Shogg = Noun. The Realm of Darkness.

-oth = Suffix. Denizen of.

Shoggoths can be spawned naturally, rather, as "naturally" as they can given their eldritch nature, or created, as they were by the "Elder Things," through some long lost method or technology. The artificial shoggoths created by the "Elder Things" were almost always completely amorphous, with eyes and mouths appearing and vanishing at random into a blob-like body, while naturally spawned shoggoths tend to be more animal like.

Observers of natural shoggoths have given them the description of "Darkness in the vague shape of an animal." and the few mortals that had managed to even momentarily hold one have described the feel of their body structure as being "... Somewhere between an angora ferret and a fat, fluffy snake." This isn't saying that all natural shoggoths are similar, because they vastly vary in shapes and sizes and are generally as amorphous as their artificial cousins, but natural shoggoths tend to have a stronger grasp on keeping and manipulating their own shape to fit their needs. The body structure they currently have as a collective "base form" is build from millennia of exploring our current realm, specifically Earth, as it seems to have become a favorite spot for the interests of eldritch entities. They are able to "spawn" limbs for maneuvering and completing tasks, that look to be detached from their body, but this seems to be merely a trick of the light, as they are basically living masses of writhing darkness manipulating their own shapes at will. They also seem to be able to manipulate their body to have multiple limbs, tentacles, eyes, mouths, and even genitalia, seemingly hermaphroditic.

Shoggoths are able to mimic speeches and sounds almost flawlessly, even though they don't seem to be able to understand speech any better than any animals from Earth. Despite this, they're able to take orders well and understand what their masters/owners wish of them. Their voice basically acts as a synthesizer, so their base sounds are very similar. They are known for having a wide range of sounds and vocalizations which can be learned to better understand how they are feeling.

Shoggoths are exceptionally servile by nature, yet are still able to form tight emotional bonds if treated well. They are always willing to do whatever they're told to do by their master/owner. They are able to think and act on their own, but desire to fulfill the whims of something more dominant than them. They do bond more strongly to their masters, and are much more willing to follow their orders than anyone else's, no matter the order. Even if its something along the lines of swallowing someone else whole and digesting them, they're bred to follow orders.

Shoggoths don't seem to need to eat as they can go into a hibernation like state for as long as they need to, waiting for a new master, or simply fulfilling a command. Despite this, they will not turn down food given to them and seem to enjoy the act of eating. They aren't naturally programmed to seek out and devour prey, but it seems like they've come to do it simply for the fun of it.

Shoggoths seem somewhat immortal, seeing as you can't physically kill darkness, and they seem to respawn from darkness if anything happens to their current physical form.
