A story based on an old British fairy tale about a mermaid who wanted to swallow people. I changed many details but tried to keep a little of the fairy tale style.

It's from a collection of Scottish fairy tales called The Celtic Dragon Myth, by J. F. Campbell. The book is public domain so you can read it free online, and the original story is about halfway down this page. https://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/celt/cdm/cdm11.htm

This was a good story! I like the Rule of 3 that you tried to do with the first half of the story, really a fairy tale trope!

I wish I could claim credit for that, but the Rule of Three thing came from the original fairy tale I based this on. Still, I'm glad it kept the fairy tell feel!
