Goblins are smaller and weaker relatives of the brutish Orcs; in fact, many scholars believe the two races to be in fact the same species; theory reinforced by how heterogeneous Orcs and Goblins can be.
Goblins are a largely mistrusted race, if not outright hated, and it is not uncommon for certain cultures to attack and kill Goblins on sight. These preconceptions aren't necessarily unjustified, since Goblins share the vicious and unemphatic disposition of their larger brethren; and most of them are in fact cruel and rapacious, and give little value for the lives of others, even of their own kind. While this isn't always the case, and some Goblins may learn to befriend and even care for others, or learn the virtues of valor and selflessness, it is certain that their race shares at the very least a great lack of compassion.
Goblins present a great variety of different sizes, shapes and features, but are generally small and unpleasant. Their skin is coarse, warty and wrinkled; their lips are thin and dry, or often entirely missing; their teeth uneven and twisted; their noses vary from large and misshapen to snouts akin to a pig, a rat or a bat, to bare skull-like nostrils; their backs and limbs are rarely straight, and often have odd proportions. Not all Goblins grow hair, but those who do have dry and rough manes that seem to attract dirt. Goblins vary in colour in various earthly tones, similarly to Orcs, varying from browns to dirty greens and
yellows to beiges, greys and dull reds.
Goblins have short lifespans, but compensate with high fertility and quick growing and aging, making them possibly the most populous among humanoid races. While they lack in strength and wisdom, they tend to compensate in shrewd and malice.
They often live alongside Orcs; when they don't, they build warren-like villages or cities that are as muddy and ramshackled as they are lively and populous. Still, they can prove an industrious race; they herd animals and farm plants, molds and mushrooms, and build chaotic and unsafe forges to produce their tools and their weapons.
