Originally a serving line solider with the NCR, Ashley gradually becomes disillusioned with the West’s constant state of Cold War and emigrates East, heading to the Commonwealth to escape.

Ashley grew up on an NCR melon farm, one who’s township lay by an irradiated river that entered their faulty water supply. As a result, she experienced mutations growing up which lead to her constantly bandaging up her stomach to cover the unsightly mutated tissue that resulted. At the age of 16, Ashley would sign up to the NCR army, to escape a life trapped in her small town. After training she was posted to the border where she soon realised that sexism in the NCRA gave little chance for promotion and she developed a penchant for alcohol in her boredom, and drank regularly. After a few years with minor fights against bandits and gangs, Ashley was posted again to near the Mojave. It was there after a night of drinking, she found herself impregnated by one of her corporals while at a remote outpost. With no money or transport, she stayed with her unit within the outpost. Her mutation however, become hard to conceal as her pregnancy progressed, stuck on the remote outpost. Her comrades were understanding and cared for her as she continued to change and was exposed as the mutant she was. Morning sickness proved tough for her as well as additional unusual side effects which included flashes, powerful sickness and strong mood swings, while the visible effects on her body worried and disturbed her unit. Eventually her child was born safely however, with relatively minor mutations, staying at the outpost with its mother. Ashley and the baby would continue to stay in the Mojave as the Cold War with the Legion ramped up. Raids were common, though the still drinking Ashley managed to get pregnant by another NCRA solider.
Her second child was born, again mutated but the outpost sorely needed food and Ashley was selected to be part of the search party. Therefore she accompanied a visit to Zion canyon to gain food supplies. There, she was captured by White Legs after an ambush, before being passed on to the Dead Horses. There a warrior named Lizard-Eyes impregnated her, hoping for a son. Traded to the Sorrows, she gave him one.
However, she was permitted to leave and raise the son as her own after the father’s death. After a year in Zion she returned to the outpost with a new child. Six months later, frequent attacks caused the NCRA to pull out of the outpost, with Ashley again expecting a new baby.

As the unit abandoned the outpost, Legion Explorers snuck in and abducted the expectant Ashley. She was taken to a large Legion camp to the east, where she was enslaved. Despite her mutation, she would be allowed to live until she gave birth to see if she could be used to breed If not she would be shot. Mistreated poorly by slave handlers and forced to resort to pleasuring inexperienced legionnaires to gain favour, Ashley spent eight tortuous months suffering before she was managed to drown the legion priestess escorting her, shortly before she was due, in the mud of a pig pen, before escaping.

The capture party sent after her fell foul to a Deathclaw pack, while Ashley successfully made it to a trader caravan where she entered labour, before being taken back to NCR lines were she was able to reunite with her family and friends, who’d presumed her dead or lost.

It was from here, once she recovered her strength, she pooled enough money to buy ammunition and a Brahmin, and fled with most of her family out east.
