Basically, both races originally existed separately until long ago the amazons stumbled upon some elfin villages while migrating. For a time, the amazons were even worshiped as gods, but through trial and error, they discovered the interaction between the races could bring about magic.

Nowadays, both societies have developed hand-in-hand and have provided advantages for each other. For example, an amazon trip to the doctor is more thorough when the doctor can meet the problem face-to-face. Or likewise, elfin transportation is made easier with the help of women who can walk several elfin miles in a single stroll.

There are certainly romantic and more intimate relationships given the fact that the races have grown so close to each other physically, but they are not limited to that type of relationship. Rather they are as varied as relationships between people in real life, and in some ways even more varied given the symbiosis factor.

I hope that helps answer that question! Not all answers will be this elaborate, but this first one felt like it called for a lore dump given how broad it was.
