With a jaunty tune and a starburst transition, the screen showed a bright and smiling man, his teeth too white and his stance stiff and awkward. But as soon as the effect ended, he perked up and began to speak.

“Hello there, I am Dr. Rothman, one of the researchers and tester here at Mousecore. It is my duty to make sure that the devices that we produce are humane to our little friends.” He gestured to the side off screen and a display was pushed in.

“It took us a while to find the best way to do that, though. Our competitors will sell you glue tape or cages that will drop when triggered. Well, something that they are not taking into account is that the tinies are just as smart as us.

“Which is what brings us to our first device and how we started; The Mouse House.” Dr. Rothman pulled out a box-sized house, simple in design. “The Mouse House was not designed to be a trap in the traditional sense. Rather, it gives the tinies a choice for a better life, a place for them to start a better life if they accept.

“Once they settle into their new home, it will be simple to pick up the entire house and move the occupants to a different location, leaving the house there so that the tinies have no reason to come back. We are still selling these for the low price of $20 Canadian with free shipping for orders above $100.”

Dr. Rothman moved the box off screen and grabbed another package. “I would recommend taking the Mouse House if you have been trying to get rid of your nuisances for a while, but maybe couple it with the “Treats for All” bundle for any and all tinies that live in your walls!

“It comes with things for both you and your little residents. Food to share, games to play, and most importantly a way for you to chat with them! Mousecore’s entire purpose and creation was so that we could treat tinies as humanely as possible, after all, which means talking to them and learning about them.

“And so, the “Treats for All” bundle is to be enjoyed by everyone in the household. This means getting the tinies to trust you and that will take time and effort, but the end result will mean solving the Tiny problem at the core. The core being why? Why are they in your house, why do they stay, etc.”

Dr. Rothman moved the package back and steepled his fingers. “Of course, there are limitations to interacting with tinies. They may simply hide, trying to live their life away from you but still steal your food and items for their own uses. They may rebel against you, sabotage your things, and walk over you as the master of your own house. And put simply, you can simply be unable to find a method of communication.

“We are currently working on a number of projects to make the choice between humane methods and any other you may consider easier to make. My name is Dr. Rothman of Mousecore, wishing you a better tomorrow.”

Dr. Rothman reached over and pressed the button to turn off the camera, sighing as his smile dropped. “Now that this is over…” he muttered, reaching under the table and bringing out a shoe box. “I can get to the real enjoyment of the day.”

Flipping it open, he considered the options before daintedly reaching in and picking out a young woman, no more than 5-6 cm tall. She struggled in his fingers, hitting at the nails with her tiny fists and screaming obscurities.

With a simple toss, Dr. Rothman dropped her in his mouth and his adams apple bobbed as he swallowed. He let out a satisfied breath, then looked down in the shoe box. “So, I hope that you all behave before I decide the prison needs to be emptied again. I am not responsible for telling your families where you went.”

He closed the box and put it back in the area. He had an entire city of sorts spread around his house, built into counters and walls. As the ruler of the city, he was their creator, their destroyer, and their god. They relied on him for food, shelter, and protection; all he asked for was entertainment and a way to express his power every so often.

Dr. Rothman sat back up, feeling the woman kick inside of him and resting a hand on his stomach. Yep, this has got to be the best way to do that-

Wait…

Is the camera still on?

“Shiiiiii-”

How does one hunt tinies? Despite their size, they are just as intelligent as you and I, so they should need specialized traps in order to capture them. Luckily, Mousecore is here to help!

I didn't do enough research to full flesh out this story, but at least I managed to blast a story out after work! And I'm not as exhausted anymore, so plus!

Looking back at last year, I kind of feel like I am lacking the same strength I did before. Back then, I had no planning and often I came home from work and learned what the prompt was that evening, thus meaning everything I wrote was spur of the moment.
This year, I got the prompts a month before, during which time I wrote powerpoints for each prompt for ideas that could work, planning out how each story could be structured. While it is nice to work like this, for some reason I feel like my stories aren't hitting as hard creative wise as last year. Maybe it's because I am following a plan and my mentality is weirded out by that? Maybe it's my dark headspace that is clouding me right now...

Despite being shorter than the previous ones, I think this one has the perfect length for what it is. It's also an interesting take on how a world with tinies could operate!
Also, the bit where the prey is screaming obscurities: did you mean obscenities? Or maybe I just haven't come across the word obscurities before

Autocorrect really screwed me here, I meant the swearing style. Didn't even notice it.
