“Lieutenant!”

“Captain,” Lieutenant John saluted, the sound of engines deafening around him. John had to rely on lip-reading in order to understand what the Captain was shouting. “Any reason why I was called here today!?”

“Judging by the fact you are in your pilot outfit, I would say that you know enough to start your mission! You will be flying a Phantom 2 on a scanning mission, the coordinates will be relayed by radio as circumstances permit! Further information will be sent while you are in the air!”

John nodded, climbing up the ladder into the Yellow and Black trimmed Phantom. Why he was flying this one and not his normal plane wasn’t explained yet, but the colour choice was interesting to say the least. Settling down, the controls looked familiar except for a large screen that had a number of his equipment shown on it, but John ignored it and went through the usual check ups to get ready for flight.

Things went smoothly and John was soon flying to the first coordinate, the large trees a blur beneath him. His radars showed clear skies, which allowed him to relax and take a more casual pose, enjoying the view. In these times of peace, it really was all he could do in his plane other than go through training runs.

His radar blipped and, glancing down at it, he saw that his first objective was completed. Taking the controls with a firmer grip, he peeled away to follow the next order in his headset. He could see the mountains clearer now, the clouds on the horizon fleeing above and around them. He also took note of another plane, miles above him and heading west.

“Command, I see a civilian plane, outside of the expected area of travel, but please advise.”

“Affirm, Saryn.” John sighed. That wasn’t his usual callsign, but apparently with the new plane came a new callsign, for some reason. Turning his radio off, he kept his eye on the plane but continued his pathing.

“Callsign Saryn, please confirm your sighting of the civilian plane.”

“Confirm.” John looked up and saw the plane, a Boeing 747, large and moving slowly in the air. “Plane appears to be a passenger plane, unknown as to flight path or destination. Does not appear to be on an intersecting path, I can curve around just to be safe?”

“Do so.”

John went back to flying, but kept his eye on the plane. He didn’t fly for civilians, thus was partially uncomfortable with interacting with them in the sky. He tilted downward, allowing himself to have some more breathing room just incase anything happened-

The plane was following him. He could see its nose tilt down and the large wingspan become more visible as it turned. The engines flared and he saw it speed up, bearing down towards him like a 7000 ton missile. John cursed, wrenching his joystick to the side and sped up, knowing that he could outpace it.

“Callsign Saryn, be advised that there are no civilian crafts reported or on record in the area. Please confirm the visuals again?”

“Home base, this is Callsign Saryn, plane is aggressively chasing me, am taking evasive maneuvers!” John said this just before a huge burst of static stabbed through his head, causing him to pull his headset off and letting it fall on his lap. The screen in front of him flickered with the burst, the engine stalling briefly with the burst of energy and joystick falling dead in his hand.

The moment was brief and John got the plane under control again, craning his neck to look backwards at the plane chasing him. It was way too close, such a craft shouldn’t be able to fly this fast without falling apart from the wind pressure, and was that a mouth on the nose? It didn’t have that before, but it looked so realistic John could see the saliva slawing off into the air behind it.

“What the fuck?” John said, pushing the accelerator as hard as he could and seeing no difference in distance between himself and the plane. The joystick pulled at his hand and he looked front to see a mountain side bearing down on him. He pulled up, feeling himself blacking out for a moment as his blood went to his legs, the compression suit pushing it back into circulation.

“Sorry for the interruption, but I think I’ll take over here.” A female voice sounded in his head and the joystick began to move on its own, tearing itself from his hands. The engines flared and John was plastered into his seat, feeling the leather creak as the Phantom accelerated far beyond what it should do. The monstrous beast behind them was left in the dust, but John could see out of the corner of his eye that it didn’t give up and was still in pursuit.

“I’m sorry, I hope that my maneuvers don’t put too much pressure on you. But considering the size of this Ravager, I might have to do a few unorthodox things in order to gain the advantage here.” The voice was coming from all around John, as if he was inside of it. He didn’t have time to respond before he felt gravity again, watching the ground suddenly appear above him and suddenly the plane was facing the monster, the monster letting out a roar that he simply couldn’t hear.

“What the Fuck!?!” John was the unwilling occupant in their scenario as his plane open fired, tracer fire tearing into the beast. With a hiss, four missiles were also launched, exploding on the underbelly and sending it staggering. However, the two engines shifted and expanded, transforming into two enormous cannons that blared, one shot going wide and blasting a hole in the mountain but the second catching his plane on the wing despite its attempt to dodge. John felt the vibrations rock his world, the plane struggling to remain in the air.

“What is that thing?! What are you!? What is happening?!!” John was rambling, trying to find something to hold onto as his plane flew on its own. His questions turned into simple screaming as the plane dove, aiming straight for the Ravager.

Saryn knew what she was doing, though. When she was about 300ft away, she shifted, allowing herself to take on her human form in order to clothesline the Ravager, Saryn feeling the neck snapping from the blow. Knowing that that wasn’t enough, she rolled with the blow and got her feet under her, seeing the ground far below her.

John was still in the cockpit, positioned between her breasts and still screaming like a lunatic, even more so now that his plane had transformed into an enormous woman that had just punched the monster that blew her wing off. Saryn twisted in mid air, an arm cannon coming up and taking a potshot at the Ravager, who was twisting to resume the chase.

“Might have to resort to using the sword again,“ Saryn said, reaching above her shoulder. “Seriously, why is the sword so effective? It’s just a huge slab of metal-” Saryn was cut off by the Ravagers jaw clamping onto her chest, throwing her trajectory off and sending her on a spiral.

Saryn landed on her back, her sword impaling a tree with ease as the ground cracked under her weight. Saryn sat up and cracked her neck, unperturbed by the fall. “Well, that was interesting. Seems like this one wants to tussle on the ground, which I can oblige.”

Saryn noticed that John had stopped screaming and, looking down, she saw that he had passed out in the now ruined cockpit. Digging her fingers into it, she pulled him out and examined him for injuries. “You look fine. Poor thing, nerves must have gotten to you. You need to be somewhere safe while I deal with this, but with my cockpit needing repairs I can’t keep you there. And besides, if those teeth can break my armour, that wouldn’t be a safe place.”

Getting an idea and seeing that the Ravager was circling, Saryn opened her mouth and slid John in, opening her throat to allow an easy travel into her stomach. He would be safe there since she had full control of her body and if he did get hurt from the battle, then Saryn had bigger problems since her organs were apparently out in the open.

“Well, now that is out of the way, we can get started.” Saryn said, smacking her lips and kicking her sword, sending it spinning up in the air and catching it easily, awaiting her foe. “You will find that I’m not an easy foe to deal with, monster. Especially when I am protecting someone.”

A new plane is in the playing field, what secrets may it hold?

A dedication to my friend Youka Saryn, who really needs to know just how creative and fun he is! You can find him on Tumblr or on Discord, sharing his art around and his story which I can not do any justice for!

I'm sorry if this didn't feel like anything impactful, but I guess it's a trend for this year.
