In case you don't know what "the incident" is, refer to the "Ironic" series I posted a while back.
A budding rivalry takes shape.
-----------------------------------
“Just you this time? Your lackey isn’t here to back you up today? Or did you not bring her because you don’t want a repeat of last time?”
“I don’t need Olivia here to kick your ass!”
Ever since what I will only refer to as “the incident”, I’ve made it my current life’s goal to make Haley’s a living hell. Word had already got around about what happened that day and I can still feel my street cred evaporating before my eyes.
“Bring it dollar-bin Barbie! I ain’t scared of you anymore!”
The wannabe hero has grown brazen over the last few days. She thinks I don’t see her checking over her shoulder like a prison snitch. She’s scared of me no matter what she says. I grit my teeth. Today is just as good a day as any to remind everyone that Amber doesn’t forget and that she holds grudges. Oh does she hold grudges!
“Big talk, care to back up that statement?” I say, my voice dripping with venom, “Actions speak louder than words after all.”
Haley’s eyes burn as brightly as her hair. She knows that I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty.
“Screw you,” she mutters. “I'll show everyone they don't have to be afraid of you anymore!”
I smirk in satisfaction at that "anymore". Popularity was never my thing, after all, it's fear I want.
“Just remember how brave you were when I'm sitting on that pretty little face of yours.”
Haley's cheeks redden. Threats of violence never work on her, but unwarranted sexual advances? Now we're talking.
"Stop being so freaking weird!" She lunges at me, swinging her backpack like a flail.
I dodge the clumsy attack with ease... or so I thought. I miscalculated. She didn't swing it at all. She threw it. My legs immediately go out from underneath me and the floor rushes to meet my face, I barely break my fall on my forearms. I can already feel the eyes of the other students watching. I'm the villain, I'm supposed to look cool dammit!
I grab her backpack off the floor and swing it upwards as I stand, covering myself. She dodges backward and I take a few uneasy steps towards her, swinging it again to keep her on the defensive and edging closer to the wall of lockers marking the perimeter of the hallway.
“That's the second time you've swept my legs.”
Haley's face is a smug mask of pride. "Sweep'em once shame on me. Sweep'em twice..."
Another swing, this one aimed at the side of her head. She easily dodges, jerking her head back.
*clunk*
And banging it directly on the locker she'd carelessly forgotten was there.
Seizing my opening, I drive a knee directly into her stomach and watch as she crumples to the ground. I knocked the wind out of her.
"Shame on you, right?"
I place my feet on either side of her head, looking down at her as she gasps.
"Remember what I said about remembering how brave you were? This is the part where you do that."
I lower down.
