This is, no joke, one of my favorite pieces that I've ever done. When drawing comics, I don't get to spend as much time as I'd truly like on each and every detail, and the same goes for my colorist. When I drew this, I wanted to give a lot of focus to Meg's musculature and the way her breasts lay as she is on her back. I don't often draw breasts from this angle, and making sure that their anatomy and physics worked in this situation was a fun challenge. The way larger breasts move or sit when a person is laying on their back -- thanks to gravity -- can be tricky to capture correctly. It looks very wrong if done incorrectly.
Meg's hair has those iconic curls, another challenge that was fun to make appear a bit more realistic. And because the Hydra is such an immense creature, I wanted to try and capture the depth of its throat. I wish I'd made it look a bit longer and tighter, but I think it turned out well overall.
And lastly, the lighting -- the lighting turned out beautifully. My colorist did a stellar job following my vision of what I wanted. The bright light from outside overexposing parts of her body, while casting harsh reddish shadows on the rest of Meg give her a lot of shine and detail in her final moments, as well as provide a stark contrast from the safety of the outside world to, well, where she's headed.
And nothing is complete without a good bulge. ????
Hope you enjoy!!
