I haven’t posted anything for a while, but sudden inspiration hit me and I threw this together.

I liked the harpy POV I did a while ago, and I wanted to do something similar.

You are a very lucky biologist. Only a few months after the existence of mermaids was proven, you were given the opportunity of a lifetime: to embark on the first ever tagging and research expedition of the elusive animal. After weeks at sea, your team finally caught and tagged one, and unexpectedly learned a bit about their diet.

Mermaids are a new order of fish, of which so far only two individuals from one species are known. Though they look human, unlike fairytale mermaids they are wild animals, and are believed to have an intelligence level roughly equivalent to tiger sharks. Seeing a mermaid up close though, she’s definitely easy on the eyes.

However, much more attention grabbing is her tail, bloated up to massive size with a large squirming seal, leaving no question of what this fish eats. As cruel as it seems, the other biologists on the boat acknowledge that it’s part of nature, and are much more concerned about the lumps that feel like a used car battery and a tire. That doesn’t stop most of them from voicing their disgust at the animal’s eating habits though.
